Linux SMP Client inside VM Image

Ok. So I'm struggling big time with this.

I've got a VM Ware Image of Ubuntu 8.04 working fine.
I used finstall to get the latest iteration of the Linux SMP Client. I verified that it did get the 6.02 version of the client.

Finstall installed all of the files and created the CPU1 folder as expected. However when I try to run
./fah -smp -configonly
to configure the SMP client, I get the following error message: No such file or directory. I did verify that it is executable and my user does have rights.

Any thoughts?

Only a suggestion because I have forgot myself. Did you untar it?

I don't know a lot of Linux, but it's probably a permissions error.

Did you take control of finstall with "chmod +x ./finstall" before you ran the "./finstall -smp" command.

OMG.. DID I forgot the simplest of steps

NOT. Yeah, I checked that as well. I used finstall because I'm an idiot behind closed doors finstall did the untarring for me and I checked the file and for damn sure it's there and it's been checked to run as an executable.

I did try to remove the executable flag and it gave me an access denied error message so it IS there

EDIT: JWS, I wasn't trying to be mean. I was joking around and if it came across as mean, I am TRULY sorry.

mis type on my part, but yes it is ./fah6

Yup. Did that as well. I've reinstalled several times to no avail

Sorry.... , I wasn't implying you forgot anything, it just seems to me if a computer is screwing up with a software program it's usually something the operator forgot to do I'm merely making a uneducated educated guess (did that make any sense? )

A ha!! I was going to suggest the 32 bit libs but Smoke beat me to it.

I (and others) have had the same problem. I just kept deleting the files and reinstalling. Sometimes once, Sometimes as many as 6 times before it would work. I'm no Linux expert but it finally worked and I have 8 instances running

Yes, it's a essential bit but often overlooked. Every guide should include this as good measure (not all distros will have ia32-libs installed by default and I know Ubuntu doesn't).

Well between Tigerbitten's guide and Xilikon's library solution, it is up and running. With WinXP SMP, I was barely getting 1000 PpD. I am now at 1600 PpD and I still have a few cycles left on the CPU so it's still pretty responsive.

So I need additional help:

- the Linux SMP running in VM on my laptop (thru VMWare Server) completed it's 1st WU and all was good. Submitted it and then downloaded the next WU. Issue: It won't actually PROCESS the WU. It keeps getting stuck at "Entering M.D." and nada. I gave it time (an entire damn hour) and it did nothing. Checked System Monitor and it is showing 0% CPU utilization by any of the cores.

- I copied the Linux SMP VMWare Image to my Q6600 (@3.2). I setup 2 VMWare Images and am running both via VMWare Player. Both instances stop at the same place as the above instance on the very first WU.

I googled this and checked the foldingforums and there was indication that it was a "Hosts File" issue. I did what they said would resolve the problem and restarted the VM. Linux SMP restarted on the reboot and still the same issue.

Any suggestions?

DISREGARD completely.

I'm using notfred's VM appliance. Ok. I admit it. I am STUPID. I should have been using this a long time ago. So much easier than building your own.
