I want to make a database server but my budget is rather limited. I can't afford for a LSI Megaraid with Fastpath. This build I do is for a dedicated database server (Mysql) to be used by a rather crowded vbulletin forum.

I plan to put up a Xeon E3 1220 with 2 x Intel 320 SSDs and Linux RAID-1 them, then I'm going to put the MySQL logs and doublewrite buffer on another Linux RAID-1 of 2 x 300GB WD 10000RPM

The big question is in your experience, would the Linux RAID 1 kill the SSDs performance completely? How was your experience with Linux RAID-1?

Provided the same budget for my system config, what would you do if you were me?
