i was wondering if anyone here is acquainted with linux enough to give their soundcard a little TLC and make it sound good with alsa/audio apps etc. i have a RME DIGI 8/96 Pad and was wondering what I could do to get a little more clarity out of it, whether thats using the xine engine for alsa or whatever... just ideas. let me know what programs you use (im managing a large collection so xmms isnt too possible), frontends... etc.

right now im running my soundcard to an amplifier with some nice studio monitor speakers, so im always striving for a better sound :p

thanks!

[edit] btw, its completely analog out... its a stereo reciever with no digital inputs.

http://www.djcj.org/LAU/guide/audio_quality_HOWTO.htm

This is a document for musicians and others who need to get good-quality sound out of a Linux box. The intention is to make it easier for those migrating to Linux to get their system to sound good. The Linux Documentation Project's Sound-HOWTO and Sound-Playing-HOWTO serve their purpose well, but the focus there is (quite appropriately) on functionality, not quality.

good guide, and ill take more of a look at it later... but what im getting at is just general soundcard options that might make it sound better. if someone has this card and has experience with it, that would be fantastic... but if not just settings in AmaroK or Rhythmbox... what people prefer in terms of quality.

nice setup guide though, do you know if the linux26 kernels have low latency support built in? no where can i access these settings on my soundcard like i can in windows, so im just curious. thanks though!
