Linux Mint for newb.

Hey my aunt and uncle have an older pc with xp on it that keeps having issues, and rather than fooling with XP, I was debating on putting Linux Mint on their computer. They pretty much only browse the web. I haven't used Linux Mint before, and they have never used Linux. I see that there are 3 varieties: the Main one with gnome 3, a KDE version, and a LXDE version. Any have any recommendations to which one might be the easiest to use? As far as hardware requirements, would any version run any better than another? It's been a long time since I built the machine, I think it's using an NF2 motherboard with onboard nvidia graphics. Thanks.
 
Looking at the system requirements, I would think that LXDE would run the best for them.
 
i'd go with lxde or gnome classic

lxde seems to be the lighter desktop around, might also be easier to do some stuff if you coming from windows

you could also install some docks and make all programs easily accessible for them
(i would go with cairo-docks or avant-window manager)
not sure if linux mint lxde comes with a composite manager, anyway u can just install xcompmgr
