I need syncing software that will automatically synchronize directories on my local Red Hat box with my live server.

Is rsync the best choice? I've never used any syncing software on Linux before.

yup rsync is the best job

I have heard CRAZY ppl using subversion for this but they are crazy

rsync + cronjob is as good as it gets.

There are also GUIs that create the rsync line for you, if you find it overwhelming. ;;

Actually with rdiff-backup, it gets better (adds versions..for frequently updated things)

Check out Unison. Has GUI to control it from, and works on other platforms too.
