Alright, so here's the situation. I have two Socket 1155 motherboards that work just fine. One is in my main rig, and the other isn't being used. My original plans were as follows: get a cheap Celeron G540 and 4 GB of cheap RAM.
But for the heck of it, I pulled 4 GB of RAM from my main rig, and even with 4 GB of RAM, I find that my games still play smoothly. Skyrim with 2K textures mod runs like butter! So I'm thinking to myself that I'm going to scrap the RAM. So now, my bill is sitting at $45 instead of $70. Should I use the extra money that I budgeted toward a Pentium instead, or should I go the cheapest route?
I'll eventually put Windows 8 on the PC as well, since I have access to it through my university. Note that I'm going to put both Fedora and Ubuntu on it for my Linux admin classes (we need both a Red Hat and Debian), and the Windows 8 PC will be a spare LAN Party box. I have a spare Radeon HD-7750 that will sit in there.
Thoughts?
