I'm using this hybrid router/switch/cable modem and have one PC connected to to a RJ45 port and one on wireless.

Both, since I"ve gotten this unit disconnect from AIM all the time. Its really bad.

I know other Linksys routers have had this problem in the past, and a firmware update fixed it. Well, with this model Linksys seems firm in not updating the firmware. I've emailed them twice, the first time I got a black email response back (unacceptable).. and 2nd time they said make the AIM computer a DMZ server.

I'd already tried that, and about everything imaginable.. it doesnt work.. but i tried again for good measure.. didnt work.

I think I have found the fix though, I disabled both IPsec passthrough and PPTP passthrough and my uptime on AIM is 1hr 30min.
By far the best I've ever gotten. But I am still testing.

Anyway, I wanted to get this out there, that this might be a likely fix. I've seen others describe the exact same problem.

This is really a cool little piece of hardware, DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem, 802.11G (all that I ask or need), 4port switch and a USB connection.

The ONLY thing I hate about it is no WAN uplink port. Big crapper there. But I bought it for cable service, and so thats what I'll use it for. :)

So could someone explain to me WHY disabling those two options would fix something like this?
I'm already sure that this unit has poorly put together firmware.

But IPsec I thought was an additional layer of security.. so I dont understand why it would have a "passthrough" setting.
And PPTP... well I'll never use that unless I start my own business.. and then I wont be using Linksys.

Again, it could just be ONE of those settings... first I need to confirm I really do have it fixed. I'll find out which of the two is the culprit later, if everything keeps going well.

But so far, my Counterstrike Source seems much better (I got connection issues before)...

we'll see and I'll keep this updated.

I just hope to help someone someday who gets this unit and comes here using the Search function...

Nevermind. Not fixed.

But now that this post is up.. I'll report here.

Pretty much seems everyone thats had this issue has gotten a firmware update to fix it.
None for this model.

Will prob fix it with going back to my old netgear that worked fine. Or trying Dlink.

These three look really really good.

802.11A/G, Docsis 2.0 (turbo dox even), and a good antennae on that PCI card.
