I have received a linksys router and wireless access point. Only the hardware, no manuals; no software.

The router is: DEFSR41 V4.3
The Access Point is: WAP45G

I have a FreeBSD router/firewall/nat, etc. It has 3 network cards, one for internet, one for internal network and a free one (192.168.18.1)

If I put a device into a switch and plug the FreeBSD router nics (the free one) to switch, then the device received DHCP address/info and can access the internet.

Basically, I just want to use this access point; it should allow wireless devices to connect (with password) and then router though FreeBSD router.
I've never used this before, any helps? I plugged both into my router and neither requested DHCP address. How do I access them? How do I set them to DHCP clients and/or put a static IP in them?
The router has a port on it that says "Internet". I basically want the FreeBSD router to act as the 'internet'. The access point only has one plug for "Router"

The only info I received on linksys/ciso site is "Put in Windows CD Rom and follow the wizard". Obviously I don't have that CD Rom nor windows.

Suggestions?
 
Both of your model numbers are wrong. I assume you mean the BEFSR41 and the WAP54G.

The procedure is simple if I am understanding you correctly. Here is what you need to do:

-Reset the wireless router by holding down the reset button for 15-30 seconds (light should flash on the front)
Connecting to your WAP54G (first time or reset):
-After taking your WAP54G out of the box (or after a reset) you are probably going to want to configure it prior to connecting it to your network.
-Plug an Ethernet cable from your PC to you WAP54G
-Set the IP of your PC to 192.168.1.240/255.255.255.0
-You don’t need to setup any DNS or Gateway at this point.
-Now open up your web browser and point it to http://192.168.1.245
-At the login screen leave the user name blank and use admin as the password.
-Now you can configure your WAP54G.
-Once you have finished you can return your PC to its original IP settings.


Once in, you will want to set the WAP54G to AP (access point) mode and make sure the IP is within the range of your network. Then plug it into your network and you should be good to go.

Ok, I got the Access point working. I can connect to that.

I can also connect to the router via 192.168.1.1

It is not routing out to the 'internet' though. My DHCPD server never receives a DHCP request from it. If I set it to a static IP address, a sniff of the network shows that it never tries to route anything to my gateway (192.168.17.1)

There is LEDs on "Internet" port of router and on the gateways nic.

In short, it appears both AP and Router are working; but router isn't hitting the "Internet". I even when in an put manual routers in and manually set the gateway. Sniffing the gateways interface shows no traffic from this device (other devices work fine though).
 
ok, got it. Thanks guys.

Apparently, by default these linksys set the sid to 'linksys' and 'open'. Both me and someone close by had both ours running linksys/open. I accidentally changed his sid/password thinking it was mine. Sucks for that guy, he's going to be pissed when he finds out his internet is broken.

Anyways... that was what was causing the confusion. I renamed and put a password on it and it's working as expected (now that I'm on the right one :p)

I tried, but think after I changed the sid; it got all hung up or something? I cant' see it in the wireless networks; nor can I connect to it. If he resets it I'll hop back in there and fix it for him.
 
mr rodgers would be proud. wont youuuuuu be my neighbor!! hard to believe that guy was a navy seal to.
