Can Remote Desktop be run on a remote PC to view LAN desktops if the LAN is on a Linksys RV082 and the connection from the remote to the LAN is via the Linksys QuickVPN utility?

Also, is there a software firewall that can be used with XP's remote desktop connection software?

Thanks.

Yes....you can pretty much do anything you want from the computer that's VPN'ing in...VPN connects the other computer...to the host network. It's as if that computer is right on the LAN...just...a heck of a lot slower link. PcAnywhere, VNC, Remote Desktop, printing, running some software from a server that doesn't mind a slower connection, etc.

Note that the remote PC must be on a different IP range than the host network that's being VPN'd into. Meaning...if the RV082 runs a 192.168.1.XXX network..the remote PC must not be on the same network, needs to be something different, like 192.168.0.xxx or 192.168.10.xxx or 10.1.1.xxx, etc.

Get the .14 firmware for the RV082, came out something like on October '05.

The QuickVPN software is a little bit touchy, stuff needs to be setup quite precisely, and no other IPSec VPN client software installed on the remote PC...pretty much the same with any other IPSec client software, they like to be the only ones on a PC, dont' mix well. However remember the RV082 also has a built in PPTP VPN server, you use the native VPN client built into Windows to connect. It's very reliable, works great, I've setup a lot of the RV0's for clients using that, have one at home myself.

I don't know what you mean software firewall that works with RDC?
