If this isn't the right forum, please move it. I scrolled up and down the forums and didn't know the exact right place to put this in.


A few partners and I are about to start up a network/business. We are looking to link up 4 - 5 Webcams. Now, what all do we need for this?


I know a computer is involved, webcams, server and what else. How exactly do I hook this all up. So that, someone can log on and view each and every room.


We're going to purchase a few dedicated servers to handle the traffic, but I just need to know how to get this all connected and up and running.

What is your price range? If you are planning to have webcams in multiple rooms, you might want to look into network-enabled webcams. They have a small server build in, so you just hook them up to an ethernet network and then you can connect to the camera and see what is happening. What is your required framerate and video quality? How many users will be viewing the video at a time?

Well to answer those questions..

Im looking to have a decent video quality for the average dialup and broadband user. If anyone has any suggestions please reply or send me a pm.

Im looking up to having about 200 - 500 .. maybe in the thousands connected. Since we will be running internet ads and commercial ads constantly and non-stop.


I just need someone to run me through the whole process.. I will be looking into the network webcams asap.. tonight basically...


Questions I have:

1.) When connected, how do I make it where its enabled onto a webpage.
- I use to design sites and code, but havent done anything like this yet.

2.) How big of a server will I need to hold that many people. A good guess...


Please let me know.. any help will be greatly appreciated.
