Link Aggregation / Trunking Question

I have a file server I just finished building, as well as my main system, and a tertiary desktop.

The first two have gigabit NICs, the latter has fast ethernet.

I have a gigabit switch that doesn't support trunking - Is it possible to have the third system connect to the server via crossover, and to the switch by standard Cat5e, and then have the two connections trunked into one 200 Mbps connection?

One cable would run between fileserver and client, one between client and switch, one between fileserver and switch.

Is it possible to do this, in software?

Not by any standard means, no. Currently EtherChannel and LACP only work with 2 physical links to the same switch. If you REALLY want to use trunking you could get a Cisco Catalyst 2950 (with up-to-date firmware.) They run from anywhere between $150 to $400 on eBay depending on the number of ports and configuration.

Some Nortel switches have a proprietary feature that allows trunking/link aggregation across multiple switches but as far as I know they are the only ones.
