I'm having some connectivity issues that I'd like to blame on the ISP. :p They are gracious enough to ping the connection while I have them on the phone, and the test succeeds, or yields a result after a few attempts.

"Seems to be working fine. Is there anything else I can do for you today sir?"

Can anyone recommend a tool (cheaper the better) that does more than logging 'pings' that I can setup to monitor the connection over a longer period of time?

Thanks. I did come across that ;)

I was hoping there was something 'portable' I could run on my own.

If you have cable internet, some of the Motorola modems have a web interface. In this interface, you can check the signal strength that the modem is getting.

i work for an ISP and use this tool it will track your connection every second for as long as you run it and will tell you which hops fail at so you can tell if its a larger issue or just something at your residence. PM me for more detialed instuctions and ISP troubleshooting techniques .
