line out from external exclosure?

i recently bought an external enclosure, popped in an old dvd burner (nec 2500).
everything works great!

except i dont know how to get cd audio out from the line out from the back of the enclosure.

i connected all the cables inside the enclosure to the burner, including the analog audio cable.

all the sound seems to go thru the usb2 cable, regardless of whether i choose digital or analog cd audio playback on the device properties. (i was hoping setting to analog would also output sound to the line out)

anyone know how to get it to work?

You don't need the analog cable so don't worry about it. ;)
 
are you sure i dont need the analog cable, it seems to be attached to the rca jacks of the enclosure. i tried it with and without the analog cable, same result.

im thinking the line out is just dead, im gonna try i different optical drive in there when i get home.
 
ok i figured it out.

had some free time at work to google, found something on plextor's support page.
apparently, not only did i have to enable analog out on the device which i did before, but there is setting to read cds on via analog or digital on windows media player. of course i was using itunes... which doesnt have that option.
