Hi,
I'm trying to record some cassette tapes on the computer through the line in port on the soundcard. However, there isn't any sound coming out. It's like the signal isn't going through. The meter bar isn't going up and down, so I presume that sound isn't coming in and hence, I can't record it. Does anyone know what the problem may be? The card is a Bluegears Mystique. And I'm absolutely sure that I've connected everything right.

Is the LINE IN muted in your sound preferences?

Is the Volume on LINE IN set low?

What is you source? Are you using a Walkman type player, or a deck? If your using a Walkman and using the headphone output make sure the volume is halfway up or so. Otherwise you the LINE OUT if available.

Possibly try another source, maybe plug a PSP on iPod or something similar in. Plug the cassette player into something else like a Reciever. Basically checking where the problem is.

Cables all good. I've checked the settings already with their driver and in the Sound settings and all seems fine.

And I'm using a deck, it's fairly old but it works. It works when I plug it in directly to the speakers, but it just won't go through the soundcard. I've tried the headphone jack on the deck also. And I've tried it with my iRiver too and it doesn't work. So it's probably the soundcard or some setting that's causing it.

I've selected the Line in option in the drivers already. So I'm pretty stumped right now. :confused:
 
what audio card? also in some programs, you have to select what source you want to record from.
 
It's the Mystique Card.

Anywho, I tried it again today. This time, I used Foobar's recording option to record it instead of WinXP's SoundRecorder. For some odd reason, now it actually works. Like it records the audio coming in. The meter bar in the Mixer tab is actually moving up and down now. It's just I can't listen to it while it records unless I plug my headphones into the headphone jack.

I guess this solved my problem. But is this normal? I know my old Creative SB could play Line In stuff. Thanks.
 
That is weird, Sound Recorder has always worked for me :confused: . Did you choose the right Recording Device in Sound Recorder properties? Also you may have a problem with Sound Recorder only wanting to do 60 seconds worth of sound at first. I usually have to make a blank file first that is longer that what I plan on recording (like 10 minutes for safety).
