Hey guys, I just got my asus 945p p5ld2 deluxe and am looking at ram to purchase so that I can overclock safely/slightly... Not sure if 4ghz is possible without super cooling as i`ve never overclocked a p4 (only amds)..

cpu will be a 630 or 640 .... what air cooler do you reccomend for 4ghz or will stock one work as long as inside temp stays low?

Water, Phase change? this forums slow and it all depends on the mobo, chip etc.
 
the xp-90, xp-120, and zalman cnps7700cu are all good coolers - and 4ghz is fairly simple with a 6 series chip

the xp-90C is a great cooler, and should take you to 4ghz with ease with that chip. just get a low speed panflow or zalman and you should be fine, fast and quiet. i personally run a zalman CNPS7000b-Cu on an athlon64 3200+ at 1.6v and 2.34ghz. idle is 25C, load is about 42C. all my case fans are low-volt (CNPS series) zalman fans, 2x 80mm (intake front/hdd and exhaust back) and 1x92mm (exhaust top). on the graphics card, an NV silencer5. all fans are rated for 21db and under, and my system is silent.

a divider is when you set the system up to run the memory at a fraction of the speed of the FSB. for example, if you have DDR400 that wont budge a mhz above 200mhz, you set a divider of 5:4, which will allow you to take the FSB up to 250 while keeping your memory speed under or at 200mhz. (50mhzx5 FSB, 50mhzx4 RAM) its basically OCing your chip without OCing your memory.

I would imagine the "better" memory will allow it to OC where as the cheaper generic stuff wouldnt... So as long as I stick with OCZ, GEIL, CORSAIR, PATRIOT I should be ok... atleast from what I`ve read :)
 
just get a brand that is reliable and wont give you any shit if you have to RMA it and youll be fine - brand name stuff is typically more stable and more bug-free than generic crap ram, but the value series from the big names (corsair, kingston, crucial, ect) are damn good for OCing on dividers, but DDR2 isnt exactly a slouch OCer on its own merit ;)

Little more but better brand than corsair in my book (2 of 4 of my corsair sets have been bad from the egg....)

So for oc the ram which one would you go with? I want 2gb but the price varys from $165 to $300.... What to do ?
 
1 gig sticks just cant overclock as far and don't get as good latencies as 512 sticks. Especially for an equal price range.
