i just finished buying an e6300 + ECS p4m800pro-m combo for $169.00 from Fry's. When i look through the processor box window, i see that the processor has a light scrape on its surface. Does this affect the heatsink/thermal paste cooling, or is it just normal blemishing?

Is it oem or retail?

If its retail I think Intel will replace it. and it may affect your cooling.

retail. i just bought it today, but i have not opened the package. It's not a deep scratch, but noticable and about 1/2 cm wide.

Can you put it on a scanner bed and drop a pic. I would hit their site for an exchange or something.

Hopefully you didnt open it yet, and you can easily send it back for replacement. While you still would be able to if its open, it looks better on you that you didnt do it if its not even open yet. I would send it back, as others have stated it can hinder cooling performance possibly.
