Whats the best way to avoid reflections on a glossy panel but still have lighting in the room so your eyes don't burn?

I went with bias lighting. It's a usb powered strip LED light behind the monitor. Not very bright but it helps my eyes.

I'm a fan of glossy monitors. What I've found to work well is to make sure that there isn't any way that the light can shine directly on the surface of the monitor. I use a couple of floor lamps similar to these: http://www.amazon.com/Normande-Ligh...3?ie=UTF8&qid=1366341740&sr=8-3&keywords=lamp with flourescent bulbs in them. In a smaller office (maybe 12x12 ft) I place them closer to the computer, I don't notice any reflections unless I have something up with a darker colored background.

my eyes would burn so bad with my asus monitor when i had lights on in my living room after an hour. I bought gunnar glasses and it really helped.
