This might come off as blasphemy, but would it be possible to implement a light style for the forums? One with a light background with dark text?

I do a lot of programming in Visual Studio, and have been keeping [H] forums open in my other monitor at the same time, and switching between looking at a black background with light text to a white background with colored text is very unpleasant. The Mobile style fixes this, but has an annoying layout.

Is there any downside to adding more styles?
 
use the Stylish plugin to make a theme for it

ironically enough, I find myself wanting the exact opposite for the websites/UI's I use lol (dark background with white text) as the bright backgrounds tend to make my eye hurt after awhile

I also perfer dark backgrounds, but didn't you see the reason the OP wanted a white background?

There's no downside to adding an extra theme, but it's work, and only a few people will use it. So unless a user decides to make one and sends it to Kyle, I doubt we'll ever have one.
 
At the very bottom left-hand corner of the page is a dropdown menu where you can choose the [H] Mobile style with a white background.

However, I'm not sure what about the mobile version's layout is annoying, OP doesn't specify. I don't mind it until people post things in yellow/white text. I also use it at work for obvious reasons. Actually, I'd say I spend 75% of my time on [H] Mobile Style.

But I did try the Stylish thing just for poops-n-giggles. Neat. Didn't know you could do that.

It's just the fact that everything is extremely compressed. Inside a thread is not too bad, but the New Posts screen is very messy, and there's not a lot of room to differentiate threads from one another.

It would be nice to get the breathing room of the desktop layout with the same or a similar colors as the mobile style.
