Am I the only person in the world that thinks that Lian Li cases are of dubious quality? I have had 2 of them, a PC60 and a massive server case with a SCSI hot-swap backplane. And they both just seem flimsy. The drive bay covers are pushed in with the slightest of touches. And the bezel comes off WAY to easy. Those flimsy little white plastic clips don't seem to do the trick for me. The cases also seem a little too "shaky" and flexible to me. When I had the PC60, it seemed like the case would go all wobbly and squeaky when someone would nudge the desk.

Compared to something like the Cooler Master Praetorian (formerly ATC-201), they just seems like cut-rate (and overpriced) cases.

Granted, the Praetorian is one of two cases of its kind in the Cooler Master lineup, and Lian Li makes a wide variety of their (shoddy) cases. I guess it can be seen as an advantage by numbers, but I am not sure about that.

I know I'm probably inviting flamage, but I just felt the need to express this opinion. It is only my opinion, and you do not have to agree. Other results may vary.

Am I alone in thinking this?
 
I've read about this, not saying I agree, I don't have enough information. Personally, I don't like to spend more than $100 on a case because, afterall, all cases do the same thing. I think people buy them more for looks because they do, you'll have to admit, have a slick look.

I'd be interested in hearing what others have to say. I don't think I'd ever buy one, but that remains to be seen.
 
I have one of the rolling server cases with a front door and sound deadening foam everywhere. Its a 6070 I think. This one is built right!

The PC60 definately isn't up to the same quality as the one I have.
 
I can only vouch for the PC1000 series, which are great! They are very sturdy and built quite well, however I will agree about the front panels.. I think they are pushed in too easy! That's why I took mine out and put stuff in to replace them! :D But they are quality cases with a sexy look! PC1000 > All :p
 
I've had 3 lian li cases, I don't know about the ones you had but I love the quality. With cases, you get what you pay for imo.
 
Try getting an ic7-max3 or a thermalright sp-94 and you will see that 478's heading towards dead. Both discontinued and you won't find them anywhere but fs/ft threads or ebay, and imo they were two of the top 478 related prodcuts. You can still get DFI and ASUS 875 boards, but who knows how long they will last.

I feel that Lian Li is higher quality than most, but it's not in the same class as the top coolermasters or silverstones
 
I haven't tried a lian case yet but they definitely do not seem as attractive as many of the cases out there .... I think the sexiest case out there and the only case I would invest my money on is the tsunami dream silver w/ window ... now that's SEXY

uh... that thing is disgusting.
 
I just picked up a 1200. It is really well made. The aluminium is very thick and the side panels are backed up with structural rails. I can push on the drive covers pretty hard without them budging. I can't vouch for anything else in Lian-Li's line, but the 1200 is solid.
 
It seems that I have dealt with only the low end of Lian Li. It is odd, to me, that the high end CM cost about the same as the low end LL. The high-end CMs are a lot smaller than the high-end LL's, though. I do like the look of the 6000 and 1000 series, but they are a bit on the large side for me.

Normally I buy nothing but Coolermaster cases, the wavemaster being the latest that I've bought. I wanted to try something different so I went with Lian-Li. Overall the quality is pretty good, but on the case that I recived(PC-70 server case w/window) there wer a few problems. 1)the case feet are plastic. 2) the clips that hold on the frontcase bezel are really flimzy, the lower right one on my case broke when I tried to take of the front of the case. Other then that I like the case. It's big and has a lot of room. Not quite as good as a CoolerMaster, but close.
 
i love my pc-61 and it loves me. i think my one and only complaint, is that it's not the greatest for routing wires, but some dremeling opened it up. if you fiddle alot with your rig (as i do) the thumbscrews and removable mobotray are a dream. the quality and build of it is top notch, i'm only going to be looking and buying lian-li cases from now on, but i highly doubt i'll even be needing a new one for a very long time (hopefully)
 
I have a PC-60 and other than those terribly flimsy drive bay covers (I broke 1 instantly) the case is very rigid. The front cover on mine comes off with ease but locks into place firmly and smoothly.

It may be a QC thing, a few bad eggs etc... but I've liked my case. I always wanted a Lian-Li so I may be biased. Only other weak spot in my opinion are the plastic buttons. :eek:

not to get off topic or anything but how can the tsunami dream be disgusting ? What exactly in it's design classifies as disgusting ?
 
I have two PC75's and two PC60's, all of which I have drilled and modded. They are the best cases I've worked with. I also have a pair of the beastly old Aopen HX-08's which are a dream as far as construction and strudiness go, but they're steel.
 
I don't know what's with your cases, but my PC-65 is absolutely rock solid, and I love it. ;)

Everything is easily removable/accessable. Nice, slick, simple look. :D

the ONLY thing i dont like about my lian-li pc60 is the drive cage, which i easily modded.

I have a PC1100B and I think I can shoot it with a shotgun and not dent it. This thing is thick!

Although it does rattle sometimes =(

Still the best quality case I've had.
 
I have a PC-61 and although I haven't yet put my PC into it since I'm still working on my project, I absolutely love it and wouldn't trade it for anything. Some may hate it's simplistic design but I hate drive doors, fan holes, and curves all over the place.
 
I have a Lian Li PC65B. I love it. However some parts did seem a bit flimsy. But the overall functionality and simpleness of the case makes it a winner. There are so many ugly, obnoxious, futuristic looking cases these days.
I think my next case may be a CoolerMaster next though, they look really good. But that wont be for a while, I'm not ready to give up the Lian Li yet ;)
 
Through all of the Lian Li cases I have worked with, I have never been impressed. The workmanship, construction, design, and feel of the cases have been shoddy at best.

I do not understand how these things ever became so popular, except possibly by virtue of being so flimsy, and the aluminum so soft, that they are extremely easy to mod.

No sir, I don't like them.

and umm yeah, i love my pc65b, its been treatin me good since i picked it up. no problems.
 
calling Lian Li cases shoddy is a new one on me. I have built many pc's with many cases, some cheap and some expensive and i have never had a bad Lian Li. I have had some of those 25 dollar cheapie cases from the egg that are so poorly made the pci/agp slots don't match up. I know they make a cheaper line of cases that seem flimsy, most aluminum cases do. The 1000 series do not.

I'm sorry to tell u this but from reading the review I don't see any pros other than the fact that it looks clean and strong .. I would never advise someone to buy a lian li case ... but then again that's my opinion ... I think they're ridiculously over priced ...

I have a sub-$100 Lian Li (PC-6067 or something like that) and I love it. I have had the front bezel on and off quite a few times, and I love the whole thing. Mine does not have a removable mobo tray :( but it is rock solid. I can sit on it and it is fine. I have owned all steel before, so this is my first aluminum and I am suitably impressed. It houses my gaming rig and it does so nicely. I agree with the previous post that the LL cases are understated. I even bought their window, as I figured I couldn't do much better! Overall, they will be on my short list for the next system upgrade. :cool:
 
i have been 100% satisfied with every Lian Li that I own. The style, build and the weight... all perfect for my needs. I mod every single one I buy, and its like a blank canvas for me to go crazy on. Almost anything is possible with a Lian Li.

they are a tad expensive, but to me its worth every penny.
 
I own a LL PC65b, and I love it. Solid build, light weight, everything is accessable. Removable mobo tray, everything is thumbscrews, easy to clean front fan filter with removable front bezel. The most important thing, however, its clean look. Its so sexy ^_^.

I'd love to find another 111-BXJ, but w/ the Praetorian's anodized panels instead of the powercoating and paint they used.

The Lian Li's are nice, and I would be happy to get another one in black (1000 series, most likely)...but the CoolerMasters are better built. (I just wish their filters were as easy to clean as the Lian Li's)
 
People who say the drive bay covers can be pushed in at the slightest touch, try taking them out and and flipping them over. There are little bumps on the part that goes into your case, those bumps fit into holes on your case which hold the drive bay covers in place.
 
Or the Antec SX-1040 server tower. That is a SWEET filter. No removing the front or anything: Just drop it out the bottom after pinching finger clips.
 
I own 2 Lian Li 65s and one Praetorian from CoolerMaster. They are different in many ways, but both are extremely high quality, and easy to work with. Definitely trumps the hell out of any Antec POS. I've had 5 of them and gave them all away for free. Too damn heavy, not as easy to work on, and the internal layout wasn't as nice.
