Very nice case, I remember seeing a post about it a while back. What form factor is that PSU? Mini-ITX?
 
I havent had a chance to dig too deep but looks like a flex. Other thoughts dont like the 80mm posistion blocks second slot looks like.

It's a HTPC case, it doesn't need an expansion slot ;) It has been briefly discussed in the PC-Q09 thread, and the only main question compared to the "standard" Q09 is how silent that PSU thingamabob is.
 
HTPC could especially use an expansion slot; things like TV tuners and cable cards.
 
Well, I guess I'm overly accustomed to there generally being nothing worth watching on Finnish TV :D
 
Not even a half-height expansion slot.....do not want!

I Dont see the non expansion slot version as being an atpc case. I would see it more as for an internet appliance or for a HTPC system extender.
 
Get with the program all TV is going app based :p lol I think PCIe tuners suck and only use a network based tuner.
Love this case though. Great for a small extender. Or maybe a test box or vm box. BoxeeBox? Thinclient or SFF for just web / basic PC would work too.

Not everyone can use a netowrk based tuner (HDHomeRun) as there is no network based tuner I have ever seen that can do analog cable. & Personally I dont want any external devices if I can avoid it. Just more of a mess that way.
 
Very interesting little case. I may have got this over the Antec ISK 300-165 if this would have been out a few weeks ago. I don't use the expansion slot on mine now, as I use onboard video and 2 USB tuners.

For that price I'd expect an expansion slot...expensive.

Just because you want an expansion slot doesnt mean that everyone will. For the purposes as a net appliance or a media extender an expansion slot is a waste either way.

And the cost isnt that bad considering what they charge for some other mITX cases that are as small.

Not necessarily, an expansion slot is always necessary how else are you going to expand the fuction of said device.

Also if you just looking for a "net" device or "extender" there are plenty of prebuilt options that are almost same price as case if not alittle more.

This pretty much what I wanted the PCQ07 to be but more gaming friendly. If this had daul or even a single expansion slot I would have bought in a heart beat.


Also Lian Li if you are reading this or anyone else. Take a LIAN LI PC-B10 turn it sideways, shrink it down the the PCQ09 size, give it daul expansion slots, room for a SFX psu and 1 or 2 2.5 HDDs. Dont need slim ODD slot, usb headers, anything like that in the front, just want smooth black silkiness. Would pay full asking price on day of realease.
 
The point is that you don't have to expand. If you build an itx for its expansion capabilities then you miss the point of the ff

That thing looks killer in red. Would make for an excellent machine strictly for HTPC purposes with the H55 chipset and a nice i3 processor. Do slim DVD/BR combo drives even exist?
 
Yes they do exist. Newegg sells them in an external enclosure.

Beside the point really. Itx has the pci/e slot, many other itx case has the expansion slot, so explain why this case can't have it.

This is a pretty low statement. Expalin why it must have one!

It doesn't, does it? No need to explain why this case "can't" have it. The function isn't to have one. If you want one get a Q07 or Q08. This is like bitching that the SUGO 5 is useless because it doesn't fit a TRUE120. Likely the same folks who cried about the CPU location for mITX boards like the GA-H55N-USB3.

If it doesn't work for your application, move along until you find the square peg for your square hole.

If you have read this thread prior to you post, I didn't say it must have one, but that the cases short comings is not having one. When the case has the space, and the (most) motherboard has the option, why not take advantage of it? As for your Sugo5 and True120 problem, the case doesn't have the space, so you cannot take advantage of the situation. Same goes for the Gigabyte board. Those issues I understand.

Those motherboards expansion slot is in the form of mini-pcie.

There are products for those who want the slot and those who don't. I wouldn't need it for anything, and as such the PC-Q09 would be just fine for me. Given the layout of the case, if anything having the slot would probably detract.

Now, really. If one needs the slot, it's as easy as taking a product that has the slot. Doesn't make this product any worse for the rest of us.
