So I am putting together a PC-q07 system as soon as newegg ships all the parts.. This shall be my 2nd SFF build & my 1st for me.. This is going to be an all around system leaning towards mid level gaming.

Parts List:

Case - Lian Li PC-Q07
Motherboard - Zotax G43ITX-A-E
CPU - Core 2 Duo e6600 65w
CPU Cooler - Scythe Big Shuriken SCBSK-1000 120mm
Memory - OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066
Hard Drive - 80gb Intel x18-m (sold on newegg as Dane Elec)
Power Supply - CORSAIR CMPSU-400CX 400W
VGA - ASUS EAH5750 FORMULA (Radeon HD 5750)

This will be a pretty straight forward build, But due to the hardware used I will go ahead & keep a picture log..

The one Modification that I know is going to get done is going to be to the PSU.. I already had a corsair hx520 that I Was going to use & I had actually ordered the 400cx for my server.. But due to the extreme tight quarters & the VERY generous cable lengths that corsair gives on all there PSU's I Decided that they needed shortened.. Well since this system should never exceed the 400cx's capabilities I Figured I would tailor the cables to fit. This is going to be done in a fairly high end manner by re soldering the cables directly inside the unit, but only leaving the cables each about 10-12" long.

I am way excited about this build as I am currently Using a FULL tower Lian Li (rocketfish) that is just way way way too big. & I want to be able to put my computer back on my desk again.

I Debated waiting for the pc-q08, but in the end decided that although I would have liked a little more room for the graphics I Really didn't want the extra depth. The PC-q07 was the most compact that I figured I could realistically build a system into taking into account that the depth was a bigger factor then the height as this will be sitting next to my monitor.

The prime challenges I see with this will simply be the clean routing& Getting my Big Ass Hands in there to do anything.

The only possible future upgrade I can see is a 2nd matching drive for a raid 0 setup if I run out of space on that 80 very quickly. However I have a home server that will be at 4tb of storage after I get the newest drive for it so nothing gets archived or saved locally on my system.

Any pre-build comments about this case would be appreciated.

Pics to Follow as soon as everything gets here.

Lol at the big hands remark. Id put together a ITX htpc for a buddy using a Apex MI008 and I had to get my GF to help with the cramming and tight spots cuz I couldnt get my freakin hands in there.

Ive been looking at building using the case as well but for what Im going for and the parts I want ( EX-553, PE-01, and the case itself) equals $110+ and I cant bring myself to do it. Good luck though cant wait for the pics.

I think that case is ugly, but that would still be a pretty impressive little rig :]

I Guess the naked simplicity of a lain li is an acquired taste.. I Like em basic & plain with the brushed aluminum.. But yea I have a few friends that have told me my rocketfish is ugly & I think its also a sexy ass case..

Did you get one of the new Q-07 colors? :D

I would love to use this case but it's one saving grace is hindered by my need for larger graphic cards!

well shit has already gone sour with this build.. when updating the bios I the screen went black & never came back.. So an RMA it goes.. Here are some pics I snapped durring assembly

On another note I am not getting a replacement board.. instead I am getting this. & Then to compliment it I am getting this & this.. So hopefully a little better hardware next go around..

Edit: anyone have any ideal if the big shruken will fit on that new mobo?

I'm not sure that the Big Shuriken will fit if you're using a full height video card. I've attached a picture to give you an idea of what you're dealing with.

Clearance with the stock Intel cooler is tight. (this is a i3 540)

wow.. yea that aint happening.. I must say though thank you very much for posting that, I havent been able to find any pics of this board with cooler installed..

i never though that socket was so close to video card

its a bummer that it is.. Just incase were looking at it wrong though I am snapping some pics with the 120mm cooler on the board before it goes back even if it doesnt fit for reference here..

that would help others here to know if it fits or doesnt. meanwhile i my lian li apart and making a slightly bigger case . its in a card board stage at this time not certain if i like this size .

Yea I can say that I am very happy with the size of the q07, but I would like for some of the parts to be designed with a little more common sense. Such as the placement of the CPU socket. Its not like many MiniITX cases have room for a tower cooler. I Would also like it if a more reputable video card manufacturer would make a 5770 to better on the shorter PCB. I Just couldn't bring myself to buy the PowerColor 5770 over an Asus 5750. Plus the power port coming out the side.

i have the powercolor and no problems with it so far like you i would like see other companys make this option available for smaller cases

the case i am trying to make will allow a tower heatsink , and i think a 5850 video card in with only a little bit taller and little deeper. i am very much trying not to make it so big that i wont want it

I can post more pictures if it would help. I have mine running on my bench at the moment since I haven't finish building the case for it and I'm still waiting on a 5770.
A few things I've noticed while running it...
Bios settings are very limited. Not a lot of voltage control for people who overclock, Didn't allow me to run my G.Skill Eco 1600 c7 low voltage memory at 1.35 volts or at 1600 c7. Running at 1333 c8 1.4v . I'll try again later to get it to run at it's rated specs but the point is, it doesn't recognize it for what it is.
The chipset cooler is minimal and both it and the voltage regulators run hot. Apparently this is not an uncommon problem with H55/H57 boards but could be an issue in cases that aren't well ventilated.
Other than that, the board was pretty much plug and play running Win7 64.

Added a photo with a ruler to help you visualize how much room you have.

Im actually using thermalright AXP 140 on my DFI P55 and the load temperature never exceeds 60C even with prime.

well I am now posting from the new system.. Havent quite got the case closed up yet though. I am making sure everything is readt before I try getting the PSU inside.. got picks to post later..

On a sad note I am only getting a god damn 5.9 on the WPI for my memory.. That fucking sucks that that is what holding me back.. next after memory is cpu with 6.9 then both graphics scores are at 7.3 & 7.5 for the hard drive performance..

You must be running an SSD. Were you able to get your Corsairs to run @ 1600? I got the same memory score with the G.Skill 1600 but it's only running @1333.
Did the Scythe fit?

& the DFI does not have the CPU below the chipset therefore you have more space between your cpu socket & the pci slot.

@ Gravitysucks
Yep running an Intel 1st gen 80gb SSD that I jsut got for 150 off of newegg.. & No I could not get the memory to run any faster then 1333.. & I Agree on the lack of overclockability.. that being said I Didn't buy an Intel expecting it to have alot of tweak settings for overclocking or the memory. I Bought an Intel because I just flat want the fucker to work, & with an Intel I have no doubt that it will now & will have very very few problems if any, ever..

As for that Scythe... Yea not even close.

Here are the pics I took of it.. Note that it was not attached it was just sitting in place..

I have to agree on the Intel thing. This board was my first Intel after a bunch of Asus and EVGA boards, some of which were a nightmare to get running properly. It was nice to be able to plug everything in and just have it work. The memory issue was not unexpected since I knew the board didn't have native support for 1600. Maybe in a future Bios, not that it's really a big deal.
Anyway, good luck with your build.

the biggest thing that bothers me about the memory thing is that its a damn 5.x.. So close to having everything at 6 & up.. & being that memory was my highest score on my old system its a big difference having it the lowest. In-fact the order is completely opposite now from what it was before.. Definitely allot more snappy with the SSD though so the feel is ALLOT faster then it was..
