I agree. You can quite easily mod your own PSU into a modular one. If you get a good PSU first and mod it to be modular you have the best of both worlds.

Just get the Antec Neopower, it is modular, it is very efficient and also maximum pc kickass award PSU.

It depends on how hard you want to make it, a friend paid me to mod his Zalman.

That was kind of hard since you have to work around the internals of the PSU but it sure did come out nice. The other way is to shorten the cables leaving enough so that it's just barely hanging out of the PSU and make connectors for it, I've seen others sell them like this too ( I think Performance PC does it).
 
Get an Antec Neopower or an OCZ Modstream 520. Both are fine although the Neopower is better and will cost more.
