I have a PC-61 Lian Li case with 4 case fans: 1 on top, 1 on back, 2 on front. This case also has a fan controller which can control the front 2 fans. I also have an Antec truepower 430 watt PSU with those two fan adapters (which regulate the speed of the fans according to case temperature, up to 3 fans in any combination on the two connectors.) well i have not found the best way to hook up my fans yet. I am eager to overclock my AMD processor and radeon 9800 pro so I need cooling but how should I hook up my fans? direct to the power supply? power supply fan connectors to regulate the speed? all of them (somehow) to the fan controller? What do you guys think is best? thanks in advance :)

No offense to you or anything (you might not have known any better) but this should really be in the "Overclocking and Cooling" forum.

Maybe get in touch with a mod to move it for you if they don't see it fairly soon so you get a little more attention.

Heh, that's alright.

To somewhat answer your question.....you should avoid the PSU connections all togethor 'cus the fans that come in LianLi's are nothing spectacular and by slowing them down you'd be basically shooting yourself in the foot. Because the fans aren't loud to begin with i just skipped the fan controller all togethor when I had my LiLi and hooked the fans straight to the power.....and let 'em go at "full" speed. I will warn you (from personal experience) that the fans in the PC60 are nothing great for airflow and you might wanna switch them out for some half decent 80mm's for better airflow and lower case temps.....especially if you're gonna be overclocking, you case temp is the most important one. Even once you've got some decent 30+cfm fans in there you may still be left hanging because the airflow in those cases isn't very good AT ALL. It has solely to do with the layout of the fans in the case. It would help the have the front intakes vertical instead of side by side so the air is more spread out and I never understood why there was only 1 exhaust in the back when there's room for two.

Do what you can but there's only so much you're going to be able to do if you aren't willing to cut some holes in the side of your case. An intake fan over the video card and/or the cpu would help A LOT but that's up to you.

you can always cut a second exhaust hole in the rear

i would also suggest replacing the fans (all 4)

you can hook the blowhole and rear exhause up to a baybus fan controller

Hmm, all very interesting and depressing at the same time :) A few questions though:

1) It looks as though, on the rear of the case, to the right of the expansion slots that there are places for 3 very small (1 1/2 inch diameter) fans, unless that is just a vent. Do they make fans this small?

2) Who makes the best fans, Coolermaster? Antec?

I do believe that there is room for 40mm fans back there on that "vent" but it's a waste of time/money. 40mm fans move so little air that you'd be gaining literally nothing from putting them in. 40mm fans also whine a lot more then other fans 'cus they usually spin a great deal faster (5k-6kRPM) so that they can be somewhat effective.

Who makes the best fans, Coolermaster? Antec?

It all depends on what you're going for in a fan. If you want absolute silence, then Vantec is the name you want, with their Stealth fans. Other then that, if you're looking for unbeatable performance, reputation, the general consensus are here (and most other places) is that Panaflo is "your brand".

Here's a link to FrozenCPU where you can see a very large selection of 80mm fans, including the Panaflos. The thing that's so great about Panaflo is that they're very quiet for the air that they move and they're available in 4 different models with varying db/cfm ratings.

With the above link alone you should be able to pick something that's right for you but I really do recommend Panaflo on this one, unless you want LED fans. :p Good luck.

And, if you want a store that doesn't *rape* you on prices and then again on shipping, check out svc.com, directron.com, and bestbyte.net

No need to be harsh, I was just using FrozenCPU as an example 'cus they had all the fans I was talking about right there. I wasn't implying that that's the only decent source for them, just a place with decent stock to use as a visual aid.
