Lian Li Case Rumor?

Not open for further replies.
I have 3 Lian Li cases that are a minimum of 3 years old, and not a single one of them has any discoloration.

Same here... I asked the guy if he had any good 184pin DDR ram (cheap budget for a friend) and he shows me the 168pin pc100 ram. I told him It was DDR, Then he told me my computer was too slow.

PC SPEC:
Epox mobo (forgot the #), AMD athlon 2400 thoughbred, 40gig 7200rpm hard drive, and [newegg] Crosair 256mb 2700 DDRS.

No need for you to go to Microcenter, to figure who's stupid and who knows something. Just visited there just yesterday, Went inside and to witness just about everything on sale.
There is a few sales people, some are new people, and some have been there over 10 years. The one's that have been there awhile, know what your talking about and if you can find them, they are willing to help you out.

I go in there almost every other day, I know the current staff and have made friends with most of them, I know what I am looking for when I go in. I was trying to get a job there, but being a sales person, most is commission and be paid $5.00per hour to stand around.

Microcenter carries alot of cases, mostly Antec, coolermaster and if you asked they would order you a Lian Li case in for you. I have seen the Lian Li case, I know friends that own these cases and no complaints about them.
I don't work at microcenter, but I find time out in my day as I stroll by to help an customer when a sales person is not around. Microcenter has allowed me to do this, because it frees up a sales person to help another customer. You could say, I live there.
Started up my own PC repair business, passed out flyers yesterday, get repair calls today.

I worked in retail most of my life and I can say happily that there are more retarded customers then employees...

I worked at EB and a customer once asked if we could install a modchip in his system for him... when i said "Um no, thats illegal and we would be shut down for that" he replied with "WTF! Best Buy does it..." and walked out...

Oh Oh How about the time a customer asked for Mario on the Playstation! When I told them it was Nintendo only they laughed at me and called me stupid... thats when I began to laugh and walk away. :) Man I loved being an ASM there...

Hey XeRo, I'm curious as to where you live. I was under the impression that there aren't many MicroCenter's spreadout through the country

Michigan

No luck with microcenter, got side tracked and decided to go to guitar center instead.

well, Xero, I can tell you that my freind works at microcenter, and he knows quite a bit about computers. he's even built more of them than i have (which is only about 6). so it's no surprise to me that they did the perfectly logical thing and stuck him in the bookstore :p

edit: yes, 6:

1.4 ghz athlon t-bird for me
2600+ athlon xp for me
3.4 ghz prescott for me (and oh, how i toss and turn at night over the heat that thing generates)
and then 2 for my brother and 1 for his g/f

Then he told me my computer was too slow.

YES! that made my day right there.

Might be apple and oranges but reminds me when I worked at a Petco waaaay back when as a animal specialist (whatever the label was I forget). No fewer than 5 jag off customers a day would come in complaining of dead goldfish.

Them: 'It died'
me: 'right, well you need to change the water fairly often because the fish breathes all the air in the water in a short amount of time.'
Them: *stares*
me: 'or..you could get a pump/airtube/airstone (cheap and simple) to insure oxygen is mixing with the water and your fish doesn't suffocate'
Them: 'I'll just take another fish'
me: *sigh*

Poor bastard fishes that I sent off to die. Semper Fi.

Just a quick question for all the 3vi1 1337 h4x0r dudes that go trolling at Compusa, BestBuy, Circuit City, Fry's, etc ...

What do you do for a job?

<RANT - Standing up for the little guy>
Yeah, you know more about the tech than the retail drone earning barely more than mimimum wage behind the counter - but is that because you got a good job, and a college education, or because schools out for summer, and that $20 you got mowing lawns for Mrs Crabapple down the street is buring a hole in your pocket?

WTF are you doing shopping at a B&M store for anyway? Newegg, Zipzoomfly, So-Trick, any number of other retailers in where you buy your gear from. If you do walk in, you know exactly what you are going to buy.

I flipped burgers in highschool for a chain of "scottish" restaurants (20? years ago). And no - I never worked retail ... but I do deal with know-it-all retards that think that because they can build a PC (come on - its not that hard) that they know the ins and outs of enterprise level computing from PDA -> PC -> mini -> old school big iron (think fortune 500). Knowledge is relevant, there are plenty smarter out there than you (and me).
</RANT - Standing up for the little guy>

I'll tell you guys this, compusa seems like an easy job, but try to get one. They are one of the few stores that pay you a high hourly wage and still use commission and spiffs. That compaq wavemaster one of you were looking at; Yeah for the first three months they were out any employee who sold one was given a $100 spiff. And that was per unit. Now suddenly the nvidea card is better than the ati. Most of us know what were talking about but are paid more depending on what we sell. I work with two other guys (besides myself) who are getting their bachelors in computer engineering. The two older guys I work with have masters degrees for Christ sake.

Why do we seem so dumb to you, because we don't care. You will not come to us to buy a computer (maybe parts but there is no money in that). You would never buy a warranty. And half of you think you know more than we do anyway. The only reason you guys should be in there is for some hot deal. Hell, I almost never buy anything at compusa and I get things at cost. Newegg is usually cheaper.

Compusa us a store for the average joe were we walk them through the computer purchasing process. We take our time and treat our customers with respect but when picks walk in thinking they know everything, then you will get answers like you have received. If you guys see me and tell me your cup holder is broken on your laptop, I'll ask if you want to buy a new laptop. If not I'll tell you to call the manufacturer and tell them the cup hold broke. It is obviously a manufacturer defect because mine can hold a 40 without even bending. I just had to upgrade the size of my dough nut hole.

it seems almost anything retail has people that don't know the product, unless you are in a boutique (specialty) shop. It is one thing to have a $40 computer part confuse a guy, another to have the lock on a $40,000 car confuse his brother.

I used to use my Lian Li Case as my seat for my computer desk as well

wasn't the most comfortable thing, but I guess I coulda cushioned it with a small pillow and that would have been better

I'm sorry, but anyone that owns a Lian-Li and would actually watch it tarnish (or whatever) right at their feet, probably deserves for it to tarnish.

I've had people ask for external USB g4 processors for their powerbook.

I've had people yell at me for selling them a cd-rom that didn't play audio when they were trying to plug headphones into the IDE pins.

I've had people threaten to hit me with canes when I tried to do my job (sell them something, heaven forbid).

I've had people throw throw printer accessories at me for giving them options to help them replace bad hardware.

I've had people plug laptop batteries in upside down, get it jammed... and call the cops saying we're breaking the law by not allowing them to return it as defective.

Every time anything like this happens I love my job at CompUSA even more. I have hundreds of examples just like this happen every month, and I laugh my ass off daily. Get that bad sales rep on occasion? We get bad customers every ten minutes. Yes, if you come up to us and start talking about flux this and CPU balls that we know you are fking with us, and will screw with you right back (such as running off for ten mins and make fun of you in the back).

I recognise those tech shop supplies/layout. Looks like ours at CompUSA (except WAY more fkin dirty... that tech manager should be fired hehe).

P.S. You haven't lived until you get a computer checked in with a hard drive full of the guys girlfriend doing things you wish yours would do for you... videos too... and screensavers. Even more fun when she comes and picks up the computer... you just want to scream out YEAH BABY SEEN YA NAKED WHOOT!

P.S.S. Yeah it is CompUSA... read the rest of the comic. That is only the tip of the iceburg.

The guys in the shop probably did each time. They "backup" about everything in the world that they like. I figure it's probably their way of getting paid for the stupidity of their customer... the pay they get from the store is just for their time doing the work :p

I work on the floor, they just call me in for the good stuff.

I swear to god, you would not belive what people do to cover up how ignorant they are. It would be SO much better if everyone that didn't know just said so. Trying to look/act smart messes up the situation 10 times worse.

5. and finaly Comp USA salesmen/casheers/stockboys/anyone working in the department where they sell processors (asked a salesmen if they carried processor bearings, he took the time to look it up.)

Now thats comedy

it seems most of you out there are infact taking offence to this thread, for crying out loud its supposto be funny, have you no sence of humor?

But as for today's venture, i wint to Murry's Auto Supply store and asked for a Flux copassitor for an 84' AMC delorian, the guy was dumb enough to look the part up only to come back to me with the answer, " they stopped making AMC parts for a delorian about 5 years ago, the only way to get ahold of 1 is to special order it through a delorian dealer."

:D

so whose up for time travel? :D

One of my favorite lines always seems to go like this.

Customer: "this computer is crap. It's all full of viruses, and they are not my fault."
Me: "our virus removal is $50"
Customer: "Thats a rip. This is where you make your money now. You guys probably gave me the virus"
Me: "Thats just not possible sir. You actually get your viruses from the web sites you visit."

Customer now shuts up thinking about how much porn we will find on his computer.

I take no offence to this at all. I admit we have morons working there, I'm just tired of hearing the generalization of how all retail employees are idiots. I'm just giveing you guys a perspective on things you would have never thought of. It is also a warning, when someone smart comes in thinking all of us are idiots, one of us is usually called over to F%$# with you twice as much.

Supposed to be... exactly. Dealing with hundreds of jackasses who couldn't find the left click on their mouse every day is enough without some jerk messing with you for shits and giggles. I only hope someone on another forum somewhere came to your work and fed you a bunch of BS... only to post it up and make fun of you the same way.

Hopefully you will use that sense (with an S btw) of humor when that happens telling everyone how you got punked by a guy making twice what you are.

P.S. kairos has it right on

im not even going to take the time to argue with you, if you have no sence of humor thats your problem, i suggest laughing something off for a change.

It's sense... again. Why don't you throw down where you work, we'll see if we can get someone over there next week... and see how deep your humor goes.

And one more thing that computer is not magic. It's close to useless unless you know exactly what you are looking for. So when you hear, "let me look that up", I'll walk to computer, pound some keys, come back and tell you that "the optimus prime transformer is a part, and we don't carry parts. If you call the manufacturer I'm sure they can help you though."

From your prospective I believed it existed and told you where to get it, and that makes me a retard. From my perspective you either believed that it was a part and your an idiot, or you believed that I looked it up and your still an idiot. Either way we go home and tell a story of an idiot we met today. See perspective is a pain. Your smart in one and a retard in another.

I think this thread is pretty funny, and I like hearing the stories because I can justify most of them. Although the others are just plain stupid employees.

As a sign of good faith check this site out. I love it myself. http://maddox.xmission.com/c.cgi?u=compusa_sucks

My store doesn't deal with jack A$# customers. We had someone come in and try to pull that crap with one of the guys we work with. He has no sense of humor though and wouldn't just brush off the customer. The customer was saying something like he needs a mac lock for his notebook. The other guy said there is no such thing, pc or mac, a notebook lock is a notebook lock. The customer threw the lock and laughed and the guy told him to get out of the frickin store.

Customer wanted to see a manager, so I brought one over and the customer actually tried to lie and get my friend fired. My manager listened to the entire complaint and he ends off by saying "...and your employee called me a moron and told me to leave the fricken store"

My manager smiles and replies "Well I'm sure you deserved it, so will you please leave now and never come back". Greatest thing I ever saw. This is why its funny when you try this but, when things go wrong you rather try to get us fired then just admit you were joking around. So this thread is taken with a grain of salt since we can't just walk into your office and lie to your manager in an attempt to get you fired.

Looks like I am getting into this a little late but just so all of you know, my name is Tyler and I work in the West Lansing, Michigan BestBuy. Right in the computer sales (PCHO) department. I would like to challenge anyone here to try and sell a computer better than I do or if you just want to quiz me on my knowledge of computers just stop on by and we'll chat it up.

First off, you can always tell if someone is jerking you off when you initiate the sale. To this type of person I seem to always end it quickly with, "well it seems like you know more about this than I do so I'll leave it up to you." This type of person normally takes it in the ass by the end of the sale because of some deals best buy has to offer (reward zone, free TDK CDRs, reduced price in PSP). Most of the time only the reps know about these deals so if you listen to one of them for a couple minutes you might get something in return. That also goes for top stock. If you're a dick to me but then all of sudden you need something from high up and you can't use the ladder because you're not an employee it sucks to be you. I'll take my sweet ass time getting it and I'll hope to god that when you get it home it's DOA.

Second, working in retail is better than working manual labor and if you do your job correctly it can be just as rewarding. You can make some people really happy by just talking with them and not making them feel like an idiot. I told an elderly woman today that she could play games on an eMachine Celeron PC because I knew she wasn't thinking about Doom3 but she was thinking about spider solitaire. I brought it up and she freaked out. Now she doesn't have to deal it by hand. Besides one of the reasons I put up the shit from customers and coworkers is because of the employee discount. I don't know any other place where I can walk with 2 usb cables and 28 foot in cat6 for under $5 total.

Third, if a sales person walks by you and asks if they can help you out or help you find what you are looking for and you reply with "No" or "Just looking" you better not ask a god damn question the rest of the time you are there. They are there to help and chances are you don't know the layout of the store like they do so be nice to them.

Fourth, I know almost every computer company rep in the tri-state region. Jamie from AMD, Nick from HP, Kathy from Intel, Jake from Modware, Phyliss from Epson, and I can keep going. I have all of their cells in my phone, and I wouldn't know these people if I didn't work at BestBuy. I damn near built the computer I am typing this long winded post on from free parts these reps gave me to test and review and keep. Not too bad for getting paid to talk geek with these people for a couple hours every week or so and getting free merch in return.

All right well my hat goes off to you if you read that all the way through. Again, I am welcoming anyone here to stop by my work and harass me. Seriously, do it. I think you'll learn a lot. Peace.

Hey what is up with the layout of the stores, it changes as often as Sam club gets in new items. Yea most of the time, I say that I am just looking and If there is an Item that I need a question for, I damn well ask the question to a rep. I worked in retail once and liked the job, but I worked for a grocery store as a deli clerk and a bagger. Yes I come across people that are jerks, but you have to help them even if they are a jerk.

I could take you up on that offer for trying to sell a computer better, but I don't live in Michigan and I don't own a wholesale license to get parts cheap. So If a person comes up to me and asks how much would it be to build a pc, I research out all the parts out, and give him a quote. Plus I just started up a PC repair service here in my community and charge awhole lot less than most people including bestbuy would do in all of their pc services. Instead of a person paying on multi items for repair, such as virus removal, diagnostic, cleanout of hardware, spyware. I charge one price for it all, meaning if I come over to your house for a repair, I will diagnose your computer, tell you whats wrong with it before I do anymore to it, then if he wants me to fix it, I will clean out the virus's, spyware, maybe upgrade your adobe acrobat from 4.5 to 6.0, upgrade your browser, Install a spyware program to prevent spyware from not entering your computer again. All of this is under one cost usually per hour.

Ah Ha, you can't beat that unless your going it for free.
Oh by the way do happen to know what goes into a Intel SRKA4 or a Gateway Alr 8400 server and know about them without looking online. Just a little quiz for the bestbuy guy, Tyler

The rewards of working there definetly outweigh the crap we go through with people. A week ago I bought my dad an Athalon 64 (the demo model) laptop for a little over a grand and that was after a GB memory upgrade and 3 years of accidental breakage.

Hey what is up with the layout of the stores, it changes as often as Sam club gets in new items.

We are paid by each month by companies to display their products. I work in hardware selling computers so I don't know the changes well. The guys people call morons are the ones who take down and put up new products. Thats their job, to know where things are, not to know more than you.

Ah Ha, you can't beat that unless your going it for free.

Your right you have better pricing. This makes me think of AMD and Intel. I had a person look at two laptops. There was a $200 differance in price. Exact same specs, but one was an 3.06GHz Intel and the other AMD 3200+. The guy paid $200 more for the intel that didn't perform as well as the amd and was happy to. He knows Intel. He's seen their ads. He trusts them. Why switch? Point is you can charge less and people will still go to the big stores for piece of mind.

I'd also like to point out the fact that we are in a technical age, one where we can track you purchasing habbits, returns, complaints and god only knows what else. Best buy has already started refusing bad customers and as I said my store doesn't take your crap. Just as you can be blacklisted in casinos, it will not be long before you are blacklisted in stores. I have three faces memorized of people permently banned from our store. Be careful of what you guys attempt to pull at our expense, and just check out here

wow, xero dark, your lil ventures are quite hilarious but on the other hand, they are kinda mean... seriously, think about the other person... they're working to get money to probably support a family, or go to college or something more needy than the hardtime you're giving them

i say from now on, we only post stories that has the customer being innocent while listening to the employee PURPOSELY making some bull up instead of the customer playing its tricks on the employee hoping to make a fool out of him

to xero dark...
intially i found this to be hilarious, accidentally event YES, it's funny...

but when you purposely go to the shop and belittle the staffs there, you're no more than a big bully jerk! same like in olden school days where the strong bullies the weak, here you bully those that SEEMS knowing less than you. I found it to be offending.

if you're living in where i'm living now, you'll be beaten up for just BS around the staffs outside the shops. Innocent mistakes can be forgiven, but you're a jack@$$ that should be striped and hanged naked on the lamp post!

i'm working in a top ISP in my country. i'm dealing with hotels. i'm providing network and internet access for them. yea their IT staffs sucks.. but i share my knowledge with them and you'll be surprise that there are still things that you don't know. especially requests from top profiles guests such as Microsofts, Intels, Samsung, Toyota .etc to name a few.

there is still some guests that i've approached they makes me laugh, example when a guest complains that they cannot access to the internet. he plug a RJ-11 cable to RJ-45 port! :) but in the end the hotel staff found this to be a learning experience!

You do know that you could do that stick a rj11 into a rj45 port. I worked for a company that did this, they wired each of their RJ45 wall jacks to accept a RJ11 phone cord to be attached as well with the network cable. Three wires in the network cable will accept phone signal to the RJ11 cable. While the rest of the cables are used for network.
Thought you might want to know.

Processor bearings... :D

Willy: What the hell you need ball bearings for?

Fletch: Awww, come on guys, it's so simple maybe you need a refresher course.

Fletch: Hey! It's all ball bearings nowadays.

as amusing as it was, this thread went way too off topic...
