Ok, well, after reading around, I'm thoroughly stumped. Well, not entirely, but I haven't come to a clean conclusion yet.
I own an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium motherboard, as you'll see in my sig. I'm in the market for a new case, and I really want to go with a Lian-Li V-series case.
Problem is, I've read a great deal of opinions on whether or not the heat pipe will function correctly inverted. A great majority say it won't, and that it will burn up the chipset and so forth. I did search these forums for a decisive conclusion on this matter, but I didn't find one - just a thread with the same unanswered questions.
I PMed a guy who happened to have the same motherboard as well as a V-series case. Interestingly enough, it was mounted inverted without removing the heatpipe. To verify whether or not this was causing problems with temperatures, I asked if he had a screenshot on-hand of his chipset temperature. Now, here's another question: is the motherboard temperature the same as the chipset temperature? (I don't know what it would be otherwise.) If it is, this screenshot seems to indicate that the chipset is capable of running plenty cool while inverted.
So, basically my question is one that's been asked over and over again: can the A8N-SLI Premium be mounted safely without the addition of an active cooler or the replacement of the heatpipe altogether in an Lian-Li V-series case? If it can, I will be thoroughly delighted.
If not, well, that's alright. There are some other nice cases.
