Long story short the HDD led, the Power led, connectors which is the "+" wire the one that is colored or the white one? (the ones you connect to the mobo)
 
Try the connectors both ways. It shouldn't hurt anything. Generally the red or colored wire is the positive.

LED (or any diode) simply prevents current from flowing when connected wrongly.
(untill reverse voltage is exceeded possibly resulting "friode")
