Lian-Li case fixing

On the way back from the vendor my li-li pc7 fell from like 1m hight when I opened the trunk of my van...
Pictures show the damage, can I do anything to straighten it back to how it was before and leave the least marks and scratches possible?

The problem is that I do not live in the US... Here in Poland we do not have any distributor of these. That is why I am asking, if anyone might have known how to straighten it without damaging it too much...

hmmm.. the side panel dent is going to be though.. just because of the way it rippled , the case its self, put the part that is dented on a flat surface take a block of wood that is bigger than the dent and smak it with a mallet, it will even out. be warned that straighting the case without fixing the side panels will make the side panels not fit any more... you can try working the side panels with a block of wood and a mallet as well, but it will never be perfect again.. and you will be lucky enought to get the case straight, let alone getting the side panel stright enought to fit back on.

my suggestion... you have a vented side panel any way as well as a internal fan right there... plan a case mod, that would allow you to remove the damaged portion of the panel, maybe a piece of acrillic in the guise of a fan guard.

Not sure how or how well that would work. It would have to be a very hot temperature for the aluminum to be malleable. Not to mention the awkward position on the case.

When I had my Antec P160, I left my aluminum side panel on the garage floor freshly after cutting my first window. Inevitably my dad ran over it with his clunk ass diesel Mercedes flattening the sides of the panel. It was somewhat similar damage to yours.

I used a vice wrench to grab the edges and bend them back. I still couldn't really get it to look or fit perfectly again. It seems your damage occurred because it fell on that bottom corner, a rather weird angle. I don't see how a wrench could grab the metal and bend it back.

Moral: Manipulating metal at home is very hard. You may be able to flatten out that side panel (or find a supplier than can get one to you), but I feel the chassis bend is what is going to really set you back. However, my suggestion to help flatten would be to use a flat surface to 'mold' these bends over. Its going to require a lot of pressure through heavy weight or hammering

And if I somewhat get a new side panel, will i have to straighten the case or it might fit?
 
the case can easilly be straightened but the panel is kaput. it was anodized, and when it was bent the aluminum has stretched a bit so you can not unstretch it.and even if you could get it back into shape it will look horrible.

to straighten the case you just need a block of wood and a small rubber mallet.
 
You should be able to get the case frame back to its shape easily. You should be able to make the side panel fit again, but you are going to be able to tell that it was damaged. The only way to really fix it will probably to get a new one.
 
Thanks for all your help, it seems I will have to look for new panel, either try to buy one through vendor or try shipping one from Germany or so.
 
you need a body hammer and dolly and if your good you wont have to use bondo then just paint it. sounds like alot but if you know someone who owns the hammer and dolly it would be a easy fix.
 
Rubber mallet, or wooden block with hammer. Hard flat surface (with maybe a layer of felt to protect the finish, work on the inside so if any mars, not visibleform the outsidde

Probably a bad idea. It will ruin the finish and possibly warp the panel worse that it is now.

Not only that, but it would be pointless to repair it. The metal has been creased and without the proper tools and know-how, the crease will always be there.
 
Dzien dobry!

There's really no good way to repair annodized aluminum. Even body repairs on steel framed cars take several years to master and the imperfections are easily masked with body filler (Bondo).

If you paint that panel after any repair you undertake you'll have an annodized case with one (obviously) painted panel on the side. I assume if you wanted a painted case you wouldn't have bought an annodized aluminum one since steel is so much easier to paint.

The frame distortion looks very minor. A replacement panel may still fit, albeit poorly, or might be able to be made to fit with some minor modding to the frame (making screw holes larger, shimming brackets, etc).

I'm sure if you look around you'll find a vendor who sells replacement panels and can ship to Poland. Hell, I'm so tired of paying to have CDs shipped to me in the States from Mimovrste maybe we can work out a trade. :D

Seriously though, try writing to Hank at Performance-PCs... they've always done really well by me and should be able to help. If they absolutely refuse to ship overseas PM me and we can work something out: I'll play middle-man, order the part and ship it to you once I get it. It shouldn't really be necessary though, I've seen a lot of great mod stores from UK and Germany that should be able to help you out (sorry, I don't have links to them - paying air freight on CDs is one thing, computers is something else).

You'll be able to straighten the frame easily with a block and mallet like the others have said, just be careful and take your time. The side panel is garbonzoe'd.....you might be able to make it look OK but the paint will never match.....what bad luck.
Performance will be able to cure your ills......the shipping will most likely be a bitch, though.

One more question, How do I swap the LED diods for the HDD/CPU activity, and if it's possible to lighten up the power button (I've seen such thing on one of the V1xxx Li-Li series)?

What do you mean,"swap"? Do you mean invert? change the order or position? Just locate them in the front panel of the case.

To light up the power button, yopu want a "bulgin LED" switch. They are very nice and have a ring of light around them.

but yeah id try and hit it with a rubber mallet on a peice of wood or something else flat, maybe bring it to a metal working place and have them look at it or maybe have there skilled ppl make a whole other side somehow.
 
Well I'll have to go to some workshop and ask, maybe they will be able to fix the corner damage and somehow make it move to the middle of the panel, I was planning on cutting a window anyway.


Could you please magoo,tell me more about that bulgin LED switch? Any pictures? I cannot seem to find that anywhere.
