Going to be getting a 65b midtower case I think, has room for (4) 80mm fans. Need some advice on some very good cooling fans that are also quiet. Money not to big of an object as long as they get the job done, any ideas?

Also I just got a BFG 7800gtx and plan on ordering another one in a month or so to dual with my asus a8n nforce4, do those cards come with their own mini heatsinks or what are some good cooling options for them?

Also how you guys feel about XP-90 for my AMD 3700 san diego?

Thanks,
first time computer builder :)

Quiet is nice, but will the fan also be good coolage? And is it good to use arctic silver?

Oh and what about my question about vid card? :)

Thanks.

As always, a quieter fan will move less air (relative). Up to you to decide what's good performance and what's not.

Arctic Silver is always a good thing to use, be sure to follow the instructions.

The 7800GTX comes with it's own cooling... not quite sure what you mean there.

Yes, I understand quieter means less air flow :) Was just seeing if anyone had a good middle man fan, something that is pretty quiet while still delivering good airflow, but that fan looks pretty good you linked. Using the search function here and reading some other posts though for more choices.

I know the vid card has a fan, but does it also come with a built on heatsink? And if I am going to buy the XP-90 for my 3700 SD should I just buy the CPU as OEM? Or will I need other parts it comes with retail?

Thanks, and sorry if I am a bit confusing, just so many questions as a first time builder, do not want to fuck things up :)

What is a good RPM to have on your fans that will do pretty well, and what is a reasonable DBA level?

The 80mm low-speed is a good choice when running at full speed.

The 7800GTX has a very good heatsink-fan combination... single-slot, not too loud either. You can always get a better solution, but you'll need to void the warranty. Stick with the OEM thermal solution for the time being.

Buy the CPU as retail. You'll get the full warranty and a spare CPU cooler just in case.

Stupid question, how do I set the speed on the fan? Do not have one in front of me so unsure if it is something I set on it manually or if I do it when its plugged in.

Thanks.

The fan runs at full speed (1900rpm I believe) no matter what. Don't sweat it.

A lot of people slow the fans down to reduce noise at times.

Awesome thanks, so think even if I get a midtower case (lian Li), it will be fine for cooling even though it is more condonesced (can't spell atm)?

Cause I am going to assume with

3700 amd SD
BFG 7800gtx (hopefully getting 2 soon)
asus a8n sli nforce 4
and the fact it is a smaller case it will heat up a lot.

But 4 of those panflo fans in the case, xp90 and the 92mm fan on the CPU, and the vid cards own cooling, should be enough cooling, right?

If you have a PSU with a good exhaust fan that's sucking above your processor, temps should be fine. Having one rear exhaust can be a bit warm for my tastes - even with a top blowhole. But you'll have good cooling hardware, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Getting a antec truepower 2 550w PSU. Has dual fans.

the 65b plus is what, 3 120mm fans? And it only come in full tower?

Thanks.

I used the Enermax "Ultra-Cool Thermo Control Second Fan Kit" and have been *very* pleased. I used these Enermax fans to replace the fans that came with my case. There are 2 at the bottom front, 1 at the top of the case and 1 at the rear under the PS fan. The case is on my desk about 20" from my head. I do hear fan noise but it is *much* less than the stock fans. The case temperatures are running low enough that I really do not need all 4 fans.

System: DFI Lan Party nF4 SLI-DR, 4 Gig of Kingston Value Ram, ATI A-I-W X600 PCI-ex, 1 Segate 160 gig SATA and 1 WD 80 gig ATA, 2 NEC 3500A optical drives, M-Audio Audiophile 2496 sound card for the 2nd CD/DVD drive, Athlon 64 3000+, running both XP-Pro 32-bit and 64-bit O/S's and will add Linspire in a couple of weeks. 19" BenQ FP937s LCD. Just love this set up!

Believe it or not, but I went with this rig after my Abit TX-7 Pentium 233 finally croaked. Yup, I did notice a difference .... :D

reese, you have the 65b normal? I am looking into those panaflo fans for my 4 fans, the 2000rpm ones I think they were, what you think?

And how is cooling on the antec PS? anyone know?

I think having all those low-speed Panaflos going at the same time will be a good thing, you've got the intake and exhaust just about balanced.

The Antec PSU will move quite a bit of air, and it will be quiet too.

Your video card will have a fan on the underside of it. You wouldn't know it was there unless you installed the card yourself. That fan should be enough to keep your video steady, along with the 4 other fans or course. Arctic silver is great to use. It's probably the best stuff out there as far as I'm concerned. I have two tubes in the fridge right now just in case. Use what you need then store it in your fridge for later on. You'll need it. Trust me. ;) . Also, I have a fan control on my machine. You control the speed also the noise. You will need to monitor your machine's temps though. I like it and deal with the noise when I'm playing games and such. It's worth it. I just turn up the volume on my speakers and that works fine. Let us know how it turns out and let me know if you need more help getting things together.
Good luck

Also, I forgot to say this, listen to the other guys that have been here a while. They know what they're doing. _Korruption_, for example, has been around a while and has some good advise to give.

Good Luck!!!!

Yah, dont worry. I am listening to korruption :)

Going to get:

4 of these

Panasonic Panaflo FBA08A12M1A 80mm Hydro Wave Case Cooling Fan - Retail

A bottle of AS5

THERMALRIGHT XP-90 Heatsink - Retail (have heard people say they have had fitting issues, but its suppose to be compatible with my 3700 san diego so hopefully that is fine)

and going to combine that with the
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/pa92ulqu.html

since the only 92mm panaflo newegg carrys is like 2500rpm one, and I have a feeling that it will be very loud.

I am not to worried about it being loud for me, just worried about it for when GF is sleeping and in my house I share a rather thin wall so not sure if it would be able to be overheard on other side.

As for monitering fans/heat, there are specific programs for that, correct? If so where do I get them?

Thanks

Oh and ill have to look at my BFG when it gets here, does not ship until the 26th I just found out =\ fucking dell.

Why do you put your thermal paste in the refrigerator?

Good question. All thermal compounds eventually experience some separation in storage. Storing in a cool place like your refrigerator, will lesson the separation over time. Like any mix of particles that are many times heavier than the suspension fluid, there will be some separation in the compound over time when stored in the original syringe. I clean my syringe, place it in a good ziplock bag and store it in the refrigerator. Just make sure your kids wont grab it and eat it. Make sure you hide it in there or tell them not to eat it. :)

Looks good brother. Click here for your fan controls. I remember you being concerned about noise. http://www.xoxide.com/fanaccessories.html
Also, replace your fans with these here: http://www.xoxide.com/lightedfans.html
They will look alot sexier with neon lighting. Choose your colors and put em where you want. You'll be glad you did. Also, the fan control will control your noise, fan speed, and brightness of the neon lights. Let me know what you think.

Also, about your girlfriend living with you. I wouldn't worry so much about your fans waking her up. I'd be more concerned with your sound and speakers. Don't piss her off by testing your sound when she is sleeping. Trust me, that wont go over too well. Pluse she'll bring it up again in a month or two just when you thought she wasn't mad anymore. Anyway, The fans will not wake her up. They are not that loud at all. You can lower them at night with the fan control if you leave your machine on.
