To those interested in physics and looking for a project to support...

The guys at CERN have launched a revamped distributed physics simulator on BOINC. In years past the distributed computing model had a prohibitivly slow turn around time for initial LCH test results, so they prefered to do simulations in-house. Now that the LHC has been up and running for some time, they are getting into routein experiments, and are sitting on petabytes of data that need to be crunched, and so are making some of the work available to the public...

LHC@home allows public to help hunt for Higgs particle.

Here is our team page in LHC 2.0 Test4Theory.
I tried to put some points in it last week but work units were very very long running and couldn't get any of them to finish correctly (ran on my best Boinc computer) or receive any credit.
If you get it to work let me know as I would like to put a few points into it eventually.

nice, razor. ive installed everything havnt had any downtime to let it start crunching yet...

but work units were very very long running
how long is very very?

Q9550 3.61Ghz

oh...
ok... thats not so crazy then...

we have 4 day units with f@h... 6903 and 6904 takes my 2p 2.53ghz rigs about that long....my 4p does it in about 2.2days

Yeah sounds comparable. I wonder how the LHC client scales with cores, if they executed it correctly then physics simulations like this should be almost infinitely scalable.
