Well I got a LGA775 motherboard and CPU. I got an Intel D915PBL. It's the DDR2 LGA775 board with the i915 chipset. And while I would prefer an Abit or an Asus, I got the combo for a super cheap deal. With a 3.4GHz Pentium 4 Model 550.

I plan on changing the board later. Anyway I do have to say that installing processors without pins is odd to say the least. It wasn't hard to do or anything. Just weird.

On another note the retention mechanism seems really cheesy. The way it mounts on the motherboard. I'm reffering to the boxed Intel processor heatsink and fan.

As for the motherboard Intel put together quite a bundle. Aside from the usual documentation you get 4 SATA cables, 1 PATA cable, a bay drive with Firewire and USB, with headphone and mic jacks, comes with black and white face plates. I/O shield (Of course) driver CD, and extra USB ports for the card slots.

Doesn't have all the stuff that say the DFI Lanparty series has in the box. But from Intel it was a suprise.

I'll let you guys know how it all runs once I get my PCI-E video card and some DDR2 ram.

Youll like it just how it is, but youll sex it once you get an AG8 or AA8 ;)

I'm sure that an Abit or Asus board would be much better. I'm definatley an OC'er but the price was too good to pass up. I basically underpaid for the chip and got the board for free. Soon I'll have a video card for it, and some ram. Then it's ON.

Cont be too far on with a limit of 15% Overclock, im telling you, grab an Abit board ASAP, trust me on this one lol. Im aware you may have got the intel (purchase prog 2004?) for free but thats even more of a reason to let it collect dust, for free.

And if you deceid to stay with the 915 chipset and not jump to the 925X or XE .... the AG8 supports DDR1 Memory, and works FLAWLESSLY with some high clocking TCCD, you can save you're money and not buy DDR2, stick with DDR1, and get the AG8, thats what ide recommend

I did get the Intel Purchase Program for 2004. I think I will go ahead and make the DDR2 jump because I am going to get a 925XE based board soon. I want to go 925XE due to the fact that it's game performance is slightly better and since it supports a 1066FSB I might get a little more OC headroom out of it. If nothing else I am ready when the other chips come out that support 1066FSB.

I am not one to half ass anything. I'd go Dual Xeon with SLi if I could physcially afford it. The Intel board will get sold for next to nothing when I get a replacement. Right now it's just going to get me running again. Right now I am shelling out for new ram and a new video card. I'll replace the motherboard later.
