LGA775 CPU Cooling

What is a good heatsink (or HSF combo) for an LGA775 cpu, its a P4 630 to be exact. I start to get a little worried when it hits 80 degrees celcius. I just recently put in a blowhole to help out things, but I still think an aftermarket HSF would help much. I know there is a sticky, but there are some new HSF's out now, I was just wondering what you all thought. Thanks.
Try to keep it around less than $50.
 
All i can suggest before going aftermarket hsf is airflow, check case wiring dont block airflow, if you already installed a blowhole lemme suggest a front intake, a vantec stealth should work great there.

My wiring is pretty neat IMO, i have 2 80mm fans in front 2 in back and 1 blowhole on top (I don't have my pc right now, I put the blowhole in now I am painting), I heard that Intel's HSF's aren't too stellar either though.

Doesn't mean they're any good. ;) The guide still works for everybody, and I'll try to keep it updated with the best products available.
 
Thanks for responding Korruption, I am looking into the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7, but there is an error in your section on it in the sticky.
If possible, mount the Freezer 4 so that the fan points towards the back of the case.
But I suppose you could do that with the 7 as well, and the review at silentpcreview is for the 4 as well, but these look like a good cooler, but I am not exactly looking for a completely silent pc. Cooling is my first priority, sound doesn't bother me too much, (but I would not put on a vantec tornado, that's a little too loud). How does Thermalright's XP-90 compare with a good panaflow fan on it? Thanks

The XP-90 (even the regular one) with a low to medium speed Panaflo will likely outperform the AC Freezers, but with slightly more noise of course. I'd say it's a better value for those looking for high-performance cooling with low-noise, not just low-noise cooling.
 
I am liking the XP-90, Which would you guys recommend, having the fan intake into the processor, or exhausting the air out?
 
I think I remember the XP-90 performing better when sucking the air up, although I might be wrong.

Get a nice Panaflo (M1 I believe?)
 
I will stand by the XP-90. I got the retail box with the stock thermalright fan which isn't the best you can get (44ish CFM vs around 56 for a panaflo for the same noise level) and it dropped my CPU temps around 15 degrees C at load compared to the stock intel cooling. The other benefit of the XP-90 is that it weighs in at 360g, and unless the fan you get is terribly heavy, that means you'll be under the 450g Intel recommended limit for HSF.

With heavier coolers you have to be really careful moving the system around as it adds undue stress to the motherboard PCB and can damage it.

If you want even better cooling, you could get the XP-120 which is the XP-90's big brother, but you'd have to make sure it will fit with your system. It's designed to take a 120mm fan, and the HS itself is only 370g (only 10g more than the XP-90!).

I'm sure there are other great coolers out there, but for air cooling, the XP-90 is top notch for the money.

If you get the XP-90, make sure you buy the LGA775 mounting bracket (it's seperate) as the mount that comes with the XP-90 is designed for Socket 478 systems.
 
Hmm, 2 different answers, maybe I will have to experiment...Probably exhausting would work better if there was a side exhaust, then again so would pushing air inward with a side intake fan...But I don't have a side intake or exhaust or any fan on the side, so...hmm...Some people on newegg with reviews for the XP-120 say that it doesn't work for crap when its blowing in. I just thought of something, I have a ABIT AA8XE, will this thing fit? I do have that HSF on the NB chipset, shown Here.
 
So, I think I have come down to getting the XP-90, and this fan. And I will have it blowing down towards the CPU.
