Initially, I thought that LGA 2011 and LGA 1366 have the same cooler mounts. But then I keep seeing new coolers specifically for the LGA 2011 platform (eg NH-D14 SE2011). So do you really need to get a new mount for LGA 2011?
 
That depends on the MB and your cooler, actually. In essence the mounting "holes" are identical.

Now ASUS ROG boards have this deal called the X-Socket.
You disconnect the top plate, remove the 2011 backplate, and then place a 1366 backplate and your old 1366 cooler will work identically. In other words, when you remove the 2011 plate, you expose the holes in the PCB.

Now the standard 2011 hold-down has one threaded stud in eacn corner that accepts a metric 4M threaded screw.
You either have to buy the correct length screw for your cooler of look for some kind of adapter/solution from your cooler manufacturer.

For instance, my heatkiller will work fine. Watercool .de just supplied me with 4 screws of the proper length that will allow me to essentially surface mount my cooler if I wish.
I'm buying an ASUS Rampage IV Formula when they come out, and the XSocket will also allow me to mount the cooler just like it is on my 1366 board.
