This. I have not heard of anyone who seems to be a sysadmin type actually chime in. All the negatives I'm hearing seem to be "users" who are annoyed by UAC, without understanding what it actually does (see above link).

And I know how UAC works and fully support it's use..Funny how that works. So, much like you I tend to value my opinion over the typical "I don't like AC prompts" whiners because they don't know how how it actually works.

I think the best analogy is this; Just because the building can stand with 4 walls and a roof, doesn't mean it's smart to remove the foundation.

As someone who works in IT, y'all need to reenable UAC. Heck, realistically you shouldn't even be running an admin account as your primary. It just makes sense.

Use a Mac lately? You get just as many prompts as you do on a Windows machine with UAC, which generally is almost none. Once a machine is set up and running I might need to escalate a task once every several weeks.

My mind boggles at "UAC is a total joke. How about MS make a secure os..." What in the absolute fuck?

...UAC should ALWAYS force you to know the admin password just like Linux...

Sudo does not always require a password. It's behavior can be changed almost as easily as UAC's behavior can (like requiring it to use a password).

+1. Most of the people whining about UAC do not have to clean infections off of computers on a daily basis, or deal with all the other shit users do to their computers.

I'm not sure about this specific application. If it somehow "turned off" UAC, then maybe it exploited some vulnerabilty/weakness in Windows.

Personally, I don't use or recommend applications that aren't written correctly. If it can't be made to work with UAC, what other shortcuts have the developers taken?!

UAC Whitelisting can be helpful. I don't want to have to run out an update the UPS shipping computers all the time, so I added just that app the UAC whitelist. Saved a ton of time.

Uninstalled the software just now, and it gave me multiple notices about UAC being turned back on that were impossible to miss. Never found the software to be of much use.

Wow. I'd love to know the details on this. That is simply ridiculous. I can't think of how it would be possible, without some sort of exploit used.
