LG Electronics a good brand?

I've never had any problems with LG monitors. Both LCDs and CRTs. In fact, they make the best CRTs around IMO.

...apart from iiyama (theirs with Diamondtron tubes). Oh, and a lot of stuff with Trinitron tubes, of course.

The 2005FPW is an LG panel AFAIK and it had problems w/backlight leakage. Just throwing that out there...
 
the backlight was minimal if any on my 2005fpw, but the black was uneven thru out the screen.

another thing i noticed is my lg phone also has backlight problems...not tht i care

Actually, I sold my LG Flatron CRT and later after getting an LCD I bought a Diamondtron CRT (Mitsu 930SB, the "best" one) for games and I have to say the Flatron tube was a bit better. It's noticeably sharper and doesn't have two horizontal wires across the screen. It's internal surface is also perfectly flat, unlike the Diamondtron but that's not noticeable at all unless you look for it. Flatron tube has the best from both worlds IMO. It has colors that match those of aperture grille tubes and sharpness of shadow mask tubes. I were getting a 19" CRT right now, I would get the LG F920P without any consideration.

Backlight leakage is not really a problem with the panel itself. It's more of an assembly issue. I believe Benq makes the 2005FPW but use a panel from LG.

which LG model did you have ?

also, speaking of LG, is their "Flat Tension Mask" supposed to mean aperture grille ?
 
LG is a very nice brand, i got 1 LG monitor since 2001, and the colour are still sharp, and the graphic are crystal clear

I had the 915FT+. Still the best 19" CRT I've seen. Now it's replaced with the newer model, the F920P.

It's similar to aperture grille but it's really a mix of both, AG and shadow mask. You get most of the benefits of both technologies at a very good price. Best CRT tube IMO. Unfortunetaly, don't don't come in sizes larger than 19". There are 21" Flatron CRTs but that's not the same type of tube AFAIK.

Those Mitsi's with Diamondtrons that I have seen have been poor in comparison with iiyamas. The UK press reviews of (Diamondtron) monitors from the same two manufacturers suggest a similar view. Those same reviews have given LGs "value" awards, so they must be fairly decent - the iiyamas usually get "most desirable" type awards.

I'll double check my 19" iiyama Diamondtron when I get home, but I'm sure the screen on that is as flat as a pancake.

I believe Iiyama uses the same tube as Mitsubishi/NEC does. As for the flatness, its front glass is pefectly flat, but if you look carefully, you'll see the actual screen surface is slightly curved horizontally. Flatron is flat both vertically and horizontally. Not that it matters much since because of bad geometry and linearity, all "flat screen" CRTs look concave to me anyway.
 
How's LG compared to SONY? Given that LG is Korean and Sony Japanese, is there a noticeable difference between their display technologies? BTW, I'm talking about CRT monitors.

ok, I got the monitor from bestbuy since they had 18 months without interest

the thing is that the model is L1980Q instead of the L1980U you see in LG website

it says that it has 8 ms response time

the thing that confuses me is as to why I cant find any info about this model on lg website

hmmm


edit, just found the info, so 8 ms is a good thing right

LG gets its name from the companies that it used to consist of: Luckey and Goldstar. Now I always thought Goldstar was cr*p, so it seems they have gotten their act together and gotten away from the Goldstar image.
