Howdy all,

Selling my PS3 and getting a new video card, an upgrade to my XFX GeForce GTX280. Running at 1920x1080 for my games and 1680x1050 on my 2nd monitor.

Looking for a solid price/performance ratio, just 1 card. Something from $2-300

Current setup is :

Gigabyte GA-955-UD3R
Core i5-750
GeForce GTX280
4gigs of whatever memory (can't remember but it's good)
lots of hard drive space

Basically I just want to game and have something juicy to play games on with all the new stuff.

Was thinking a Radeon 6950, should I snag one or is there something coming down the pipes soon that might compete?

HD6950's your best buy for now. You're looking at about a 70% increase from your 280 with one. Nothing in the pipeline due to replace the 6950 until christmas.

I would say the 6950, although a nicely overclocked GTX 560 is a close second. It just comes down to what brand you prefer. Also keep an eye out on the GTX 570's as some are getting close to the $300 mark.

What he said.

That's my plan I think, going to wait to see if Newegg Canada has a nice deal crop up and snag the 6950 2gb and just soft mod for the shaders and whatnot.

Although, I AM a massive NVidia fanboy

What card would you folks recommend? I prefer reasonably quiet in my system when its running also.

If you must buy nvidia, you can get a GTX560Ti for the same price as the 6950. The 6950 is faster though, has more memory, uses less power, and is also unlockable. It's really the far better buy.
