Let's play: Name that block....

I'm trying to find a certain CPU block that has a somwhat unique design. It is a 2 barb design, with a center inlet and offset outlet. What makes it unique is that instead of raised pins or fins or channels where the water enters, it has pits or "cups" directly above the cpu. The advantage being that there is less matter between the CPU die and the cooling water. If anyone here know's what I'm talking about you could be a winner of...

Nice try, but no dice.

That's what I thought it was at first when I was trying to remember, but that's not it. That block is on the right track though. It has a very thin base, and the one I'm thinking of has a thin base as well. But instead of raised fins or channels it has scooped-out pits directly above the cpu area. If it helps at all, I remember reading in the review that the manufacturer cautioned against lapping the block. This was to prevent accidentaly breaching the underside, and compromising the pressure seal.

edit: that fits everything in your description except being really really thin.

Cascade?

I cautioned against excessive lapping (as in taking to it with 100-grit paper), and instead using 600-grit or finer paper.

Cascade has no less material between the CPU and the water as many other blocks (TDX/RBX, Cuplex Pro, NexXxoS XP, etc). It was just a caution against silliness.

The DD TDX block is close, but it's the little river cascade that I was thinking of. However, after looking at the link cathar provided, i'm having second thoughts about it. $105 for a waterblock? Maybe I'll go with the TDX instead....

I had a chance for one 1.5 years ago at $80 on eBay, and I let it slip away.

Cascade's stopped being made close to 18 months ago.

Couldn't buy one today unless it was second hand.

More Storm blocks (the Cascade replacement) will be available in June(ish).

No. Those are Storm/G5's (deposits) which are machine complete and being packed ready to go as I write this.

If you want the absolute best, it does not get any better than Cathars waterblocks, they are well worth the money. Also, as is clearly shown by the infrequency with which he makes them, he is not in this to make a huge profit, the blocks cost a lot because they are very complex and difficult to manufacture (another reason probably for the small scale of production)
