Leopard Delayed Until October

Couple things. . .

-- With the buildup and hype of the iPhone, they simply can't afford to miss their timeline on the iPhone. They simply have too much riding on it. . .shareholder interest, contractual commitments with Cingular, etc. The world is waiting for the iPhone - where only the ultra-faithful are waiting as much for Leopard.

-- This should also signal that the iPhone probably isn't running a version of Leopard.

-- Any developer will tell you Apple wasn't going to hit their "spring" target anyway. Apple's press release said that Leopard's feature set is locked in, but there are still way too many bugs to be fixed. Some of you may remember when Tiger was released - there were landmines all over it for a lot of people. Better to wait than to repeat those mistakes. But the iPhone exuse does seem like a cop out.

-- Exactly which features of Leopard are people dying for today? Spaces? Time Machine? I haven't seen anything that makes me want it now as-is as opposed to waiting 5 months for everything to work wonderfully.

I see what you're saying, but I am getting hella anxious to see what we haven't heard about Leopard.

Well, in their press release Apple said that they would be giving out feature-complete Leopard seed builds at WWDC. We should know more then.

While CS3 is coming, Office 2008 probably won't be released until after Leopard pops anyway.

Who cares about the new features of Leopard, I wanna see the new hardware designs! I just bought a new 24", and I simply cannot wait until the new iMacs are out so I can scream "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" and sob for days. :D

Update = patches and updates available for free, usually via Software Update
Upgrade = generational enhancement to the OS which costs money

Historically, new payware versions of the OS have been $129 retail - with a 5-user Family Pack for $199. That's what Tiger is listed for on Apple's web store. Where are you seeing for $160?
