Leopard Delayed Until October

I'm pretty happy with 10.4 actually. I'd rather have 10.5 than the iPhone though.

Rumor mill has it another reason they're waiting for Leopard is for R600, ATis new GFX card. This is PURE RUMOR, but I've heard from a few places (on [H]|Forums and other places) that the leaked pics are actually the Model for the Mac Pro...

Once again, rumor rumor rumor.

screw the Iphone, it's for sissies and queers

Whoa there. Let's take the homophobia elsewhere, ok? As far as I understand, the group with the best name recognition and interest in the iPhone is high school and college students, not homosexuals.

that sucks, i wanted to wait until leopard was out before i got my mac book pro :(

FUCK. well hopefully a new imac or laptop will come out soon to tide us over.

Well, did the Santa Rosa chips get released yet?
That I would think might be when the next hardware upgrade for the MacBook (Pro) be.
Yet the Mac Pro will probably not see much until the DX10 card from ATi comes out I bet.

So maybe, but a hardware & leopard release was what I was hoping for.

Life often presents tradeoffs, and in this case we're sure we've made the right ones.

Yes, good job. Fuck over your existing customer while you reel in new ones, thanks a lot. I had a feeling right from the start that a first quarter release date was pure bullshit.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!! *head explodes*

Can't believe all those Taiwanese rumours were true...

I'll be rockin' an iPhone, I would love to not have to carry around two different devices.

I'll also be getting Leopard when it comes out in (now) October.

Sure it's a bit further off; but it means we get a higher quality product. The truth is Apple took on too many very large projects at the same time and needs to prioritize.

The iPhone excuse does kind of sound like a cop out to a bigger problem though. The seeding of Leopard has been slow and very unneventful and it is clear that Apple was not on track for it's alledged Spring release target.

Aaaanyway, aside from fighting with my girlfriend for a whole week this is really putting icing on the cake.

How, exactly, is delaying the release of 10.5 by three months "fucking over your existing customers"?

It's all about entitlement.

Some consumers feel they are entitled to have it released at a certain date. Some of them are more vocal than others. (This is true for many companies, not just Apple)

My standpoint is: "So What?"
There's no huge outstanding issues with 10.4 thats preventing me from working. Sure, the new features of 10.5 would be great to have, but it's not anything dire.

Hey, at least they didn't delay it because of Vista.

this make me sad panda.

but honestly, OS X 10.4 is still better than Vista. In fact this makes me happy in a way, because it leaves room for the possibility that Leopard really will still have some "super secret whammo-zowie cool" features. I had reasoned that, if it really were going to be released in June, that those features would already have made it into the developers' seeds, and thus, that they didn't exist, because they weren't in the seeds.

And by the way, this is definitely the right trade-off. OS X 10.4 is still better than Vista. They have no need to push Leopard out the door faster than October. Might as well start selling iPhones now.

I don't understand why some people are upset by this. It's just three months, and there aren't any huge issues with 10.4 that need to be fixed by 10.5

I am wondering if the iPhone has nothing to do with it, and maybe it's just there are some bugs in it that they are worried about. I hate to say this, but it could be possible, but I agree, there's nothing we can do, getting upset about ain't gonna change anything, and if they push it out the door there may be more bugs. It's only 90 days, it's not that bad

I guess I don't really understand why anyone is making a big deal out of this. There's nothing wrong with Tiger. It's not like anyone needs 10.5 for any specific reason.

If you were waiting to buy your Mac until after Leopard came out, what's holding you back now? Buy it when you need it and then upgrade to Leopard for $70/130 when it comes out. If you can afford a Mac in the first place, $70 in October shouldn't be a huge problem.

 how does the OP's message show a fear of gays ?

Hey I will just be happy to have a new system that isnt full of bugs. Shit it has taken me close to 4 years to get my XP system running flawlessly. Now they release all kinds of updates and crap that go along with Vista and once again shit is going bonkers...

Who says sissies and queers are gay?

I would like an iPhone but i just cant justify myself to put down that sort of cash for things I already own. Sides that its a phone, i get a new phone every 6 months.

The thing that pisses me off is that Apple has known the iPhone was gonna be a big thing yet they didnt allocate the amount of people and resources to release it ontime without disrupting other projects.

At least at the WWDC the beta will be out and maybe we will get some new features from developers. And at the time of release there should be programs that natively support the new features too.

high interest does not always transfer over into high sales. this is a very pricey phone, and alot of kids dont have the cash, and alot of parents arent going to be interested in paying it. i could say interest in ferrari is high among hs and college students.

Regardless, I doubt "sissies and queers" are going to be the largest buyers of iPhones.

I bet more gay people can afford iPhones than high school students. They have more disposable income.

Can we leave the Sexual Orientation discussion out of this thread please?

I haven't really read much of this thread but I will say I'm glad Apple is taking the approach they are for a couple reasons. First, I'm more than happy to wait an extra 90 days for an OS that isn't going to need to be patched right away. Second, wether the iPhone is really the true reason behind this who cares, the iPhone will be a great product and will definitely have it's niche market.

Another thing that's funny, Apple had never said they were going to release Leopard at the WWDC until this came out. No one knew that actual original release date, there were only guesses and some were sooner than others, just pretend the original and only date was October :p

If you want to be a company's beta tester, then why would you switch from Microsoft??? You get to be beta, and at times even an alpha tester with most of their products. :D

They did stick to spring release timeframe for a long time, now it's fall.

So they did change the date but either way I don't mind waiting.

My point is, it's never been a set date, Spring is about as specific as you could ever get and even at that WWDC is June which is pretty much Summer so even Spring this time around would not be correct :D

Spring begins on the Vernal Equinox (March 20th or 21st in the Northern Hemisphere) and lasts till Summer Solstice (June 21st or 22nd in the Northern Hemisphere); and WWDC is June 11th to June 15th.

So while late in the season, it was still technically Spring.

Spring or summer, who cares. I'm quite sure that they are going to release a quality product, it's going to take a lot of work to screw over 10.4 :D

Besides, wasn't it Vista that was delayed three years and not three months and still came out with incomplete or missing features (a feature that is half-backed can be considered as missing as well )
