i have a t3i, i do some macro, and portaits, looking for a telpehoto lens hopefully about up to 300mm
I have about 200 to spend i was looking at this:
this one
Any suggestions?

you wont be able to macro on that lens, closest focus distance = 4.9ft.

but your not going to get a good macro lens for $200. do you have a 50mm lens, you can get by with some extension rings untill you can afford a macro lens.

this is a good portrait lens for under $200 you will not get better.

you can try for a used one of this if macro is very important:http://www.amazon.com/Canon-50mm-Compact-Macro-Lens/dp/B00006I53V

no macro's not that important, my kit lens does macro very, wasnt meaning i was going to use that lens for macro, just adding that incase anybody wanted to suggest something else thanks....

I'd very much recommend against getting the Canon 75-300mm, it is commonly regarded as the weakest lens in Canon's current lineup. The two copies I've had the opportunity to use had terribly slow AF performance and didn't begin to get even moderately sharp at the center until around f/8.

For about $50 more on Amazon you can get the 55-250mm f/4.5-5.6 IS which is a MUCH better and newer design. Sharper at all focal lengths, with less distortion, and a 4-stop Image Stabilizer. You won't regret making the upgrade from the 75-300.

The 50mm lost at the telephoto end is only about 1 degree in terms of angle of view, whereas the 20mm gained at the wide end gives you an extra 7.2 degrees of view. In short, you're gaining more than you're losing by giving up 50mm at the long end for 20mm at the short end .

i really dont care about gaining the 20mm .... lol. thanks though, i will defintely consider that lens
