Believe it or not, there is a chance that internet gambling could be legalized and regulated as apposed to a strict ban.

"In the end, adults ought to be able to decide for themselves how they spend the money they earn themselves," said Rep. Barney Frank, the Democratic chairman of the House Financial Services committee and primary backer of the legalization effort.

I hope they do legalize online gambling. I liked being able to bet on my favorite sports teams without having top drive 2 hours to the nearest casino. I was also impacted by the inability of financial regulators to differentiate between games of chance and sport, and betting on financial markets (many foreign brokerages have rules agasint using credit cards to clear transactions for the purchase of stocks/bonds/etc. CFDs are my particular concern as I like them better than stock options in select circumstances).

While I never gamble online myself (or really, at all), I do like this idea. People should be allowed do decide HOW they flush their hard-earned money away. :)
I still personally think that gambling is a tax on the foolish, but if the (american) gambling sites gave as much money to the government projects as casinos do to the states, it could be a nice source of income.

Go Barney Go Barney.

I was a beta tester for Paradise and Pokerstars. Played for years, lots of fun, the first Idiot Spitzer tossed a monkey wrench into paypal when Ebay bought it. Then the ccard companies got stung by the lady in Cali with $100,000 debt ruled UNCOLLECTIBLE as gambling debt is not a legal debt in Cali and manyother states. The Kyl and the christian ckskrs decided we all needed protection from ourselves and altered the WIRE ACT to include the internet.... joining Tony Soprano's bookie business, etc.

Worse was that Vegas backed Kyl because they figured.... like typical morons... that if they banned internet gaming, it wouldn't compete with thier casino's. Cough. Then they realized as Poker, etc exploded that they could be making $BILLIONS in profits with zilch for effort.... OOPS... too late Kyl and the christian ckskrs that they funded managed to actually get it banned, doh! :p :D

Maybe Barney can stop the insanity, and we can all play at Bellagio.com's pokerroom, with the safety of the Nevada Gaming Commision protection/monitoring, and the convenience of not having to travel long distances to a casino.

Nitpicking, but....regulated as apposed should read regulated as opposed. :)

Thank God. For the last few months I fought like hell to withdraw over $2500 from Full Tilt Poker and my bank won't let me deposit. Hopefully, the absurdity won't last much longer.

Well, if I really wanted to keep playing, I have friends in Europe who could setup a bank account/debit card/address for me, but I figured it just wasn't worth the effort.

Pokerstars just gave most of the play$ people $5 real money to fiddle with in a promo, Ill try to build from there in baby limits.

Last time I had left $.22 (only took out round dollars) on Paradise after cash out, and used microlimit no-limit to build it up to $500.... cashed out just before the law went into effect.
