Add this to your launch string in Properties from your shortcut.

+mat_queue_mode 0 (Default)

+mat_queue_mode 2 (DualCore)

+mat_queue_mode 4 (I have 4 cores) I-7 (Did not try 8 for HT)

I can tell a diffrence in loading and playing smoother.

Put -novid in your (R-click your Steam icon)Steam,(click) games,(right click) Left4dead game in installed games,Properties, Set launch options, add the -novid in the little window.

No more fricking intro crap

You cant disable the intro, the intro is simply amazing , i always catch myself watching it when i load the game. Thanks for the info though.

i also use -sw -noborder for windowmode without a border, the game looks full screen but I can minimize with no slowdowns or freezes at all.

I need this because I run two monitors and switch between my game and whatever im doing in the second screen. but even before I had 2 monitors it makes a huge difference if you minimize at all during games. (also works very well in TF2)
