Left4Dead PC or 360?

How is this even a question? PC of course. Its always PC, assuming the port is written correctly.

Played both versions and I *PREFER* the pc version. This is of course on my pc that I built with no BSODs and a 360 with no RROD in its lineage, that is not what swayed me. I think some of these posters would still have been boasting their preferred platform even if it looked like Space Invaders on screen, cost $200 to play per hour, and had to be controlled via B-17 hydraulics. Thanks to the few who have tried to keep this thread on topic.

PC because you can hit "Take a Break" then alt+tab and do something else while the AI plays :)

Maybe you are living in a fantasy world? Obviously you are. Just from the first page of Google results:

XP and Vista BSOD Videos

And there are many many more.....but wait...that's right...they don't exist.

I'm totally antivista and I'm sure you can see from past threads if you searched, but I haven't had any BSOD's. I'm not saying they don't happen, but a properly configured Vista machines shouldn't have major problems not related to compatibility. Even my overclocked machine gives me minimal problems.

Oh and by the way, get the PC version. Mouse and keyboard support for first person shooters all the way. As much as I love my PS3, joystick aiming has, and always will suck. I've played the 360 enough to say this too, I feel.

I guess it depends where your friends are gaming, and whether or not your PC is up to the task. Mouse/keyboard support and mods would easily have me recommending the PC version.

PC for me. If for some reason the game isn't playing correctly then I can always tweak or upgrade the system so it does. Much more expandability on a PC than a console. May cost more in the long run but it is well worth it IMO.

with the , what, 30% or so failure rate of the 360, you can rule out any argument about stability or what not

I love my little white box and the few games I have for it. But you wont catch me paying just to play games that I could play for free online on the black box next to it. But the white one has its use. Even tho im on my second unit already, Ive never had to replace anything in my PC that cost more than 10 bucks from failure. Cant say the same about my white box. I got a red ring and my second unit wouldnt connect online for a period of about 3 weeks and then it would, then it wouldnt, so on...

And, this is my first time playing on live, Ive always been a free type of guy so I usually wouldnt use live. Anyways, let me say I STILL cant play gears 2 online. And epic puts out a responce saying nothings wrong, a few people have played online so it must be working. On a PC, even if a developer wont fix a major flaw, some wiz kid will in a crack and your all good then. Plus I just like how PC and PS3 for that matter handle joinng game, none of this matchmaking crap.

And finally, graphics can make or break a game. Since its a source game, most people here will be able to match the 360 in terms of graphics, and most will also pass them. In this game, having the best resolution you can makes a differance. I believe source runs 720p and is stretched to 1080p. It will do better 19x12 on ours without stretching, so we see more game, more zmombies, and some of us have even higher rez, EVEN MORE ZMOMBIES!!!

So, Ill get it on PC. Little white box has its uses, just not many of them. (Plus its cheaper, and mods, and many other things not in this rant)

and about the BSOD and all that, ever since Vista, Ive never crashed once I made it to windows and never got a BSOD. Hell, The only times I couldnt make it to windows were my mobo. Ive done some hefty OCing (last CPU) and the only weak link was my mobo, windows just took it like a man and drove on

hell, even in XP i only BSOD once, but that was from some nasty RAM I had... brrrr value ram

EDIT
plus, like other valve games, if youve got a tripple monitor setup, then the white box is useless, because source can use those 3 for superwidescreen and you get perif vision then. I know its few and far between, but when I first played CSS on 3 monitors, WOW.....

Does L4D still have the stupid match making on PC?

I hate that, or can I just go to servers and join one?

Thanks!

out of the mny PC games i have purchased in the last few weeks this is by far the greatest one i have played. I still find my self in fallout3 BUT when i am in the mood to just go ape shit on a horde of zombies with a few friends and/or random people there is nothing like L4D.

it gets my vote for best of 2008

dunno, Ive DL'd the demo but Ive been to busy trying to get gears to go online, havent played it yet, but If gears dont go by this weekend, Ill be playing L4D. :(

I personally believe that asking which platform is the better choice to play Left for Dead on THIS forum is futile. HardOCP members will choose the PC about 90% of the time. On the flip side... if you ask the same question on an XBOX centric forum you'd get the exact opposite answer.

Played both, I like the PC better.

BTW, starting this post as a poll would've better represented the analytics of responses.

*IF* I didn't have to use Steam..ing pile of shit to play L4D, then most definitely the PC version. Steam has borked my machines numerous times, and single handedly deleted all my game installs twice (way back when trying to uninstall Half-Life) and three times forced me to reformat my operating system. Not to mention Steaming pile wouldn't even install itself right off the TF2 disc on my new computer. I haven't played TF2 in roughly 8 months and forgot my login name for Steam, so basically I'm screwed and have to buy ANOTHER copy of TF2 if I want to play a game I ALREADY paid for. Screw Valve.

So I would have to lean in the 360's direction, but we know gamepads suck for FPS games. Having to keep using the original disc sucks arse, too.

My vote is neither system, and save your money for a PC game that doesn't force you to log in just to play the damn thing. Ah, the good 'ol days... :D

Consumer incompetency? You losing your login isn't valves fault.

My friend has a dedicated server - basically the only way it works is that he first joins his server (which he creates a lobby for) and I join his lobby. I can only hope that they make this easier in the future though.

Trust me, you're doing it wrong.

Blaming a company for you losing your login is like causing a fender-bender because you weren't paying attention, only to get out of your car and chew the person you hit out for being there in the first place. Also, I'm sure Valve is just SOOOO TERRIBLE and STUPID that there's like, totally no way to like, evar recover your password/login.

Two people derailing the thread... and bashing a person who doesn't agree with Valve's system.

It is their fault for requiring a login to play a game that shouldn't need one. It's not like a bank account. It is not the customer's fault for having to remember a login for every site and forum they go to. Valve chose to do it this way, not the customer.

Trust me, you're doing it wrong.

doing it wrong? Huh?
No, it would be like me not paying attention, then a car pull illegally out in front of me. Sure, I could have possibly avoided it had I been paying attention, but ultimately it is still their fault. Still not a valid response, because driving is a life or death situation. Too many people drive around texting and "not paying attention" to not pay attention and ignorant to how easy it is to die in a car accident.

I have tried recovering my login name, but Valve gave me the finger. Even sending them a picture of me holding the box with the cd key in my hand didn't do any good. Their answer was "sorry, there isn't anything we can do". I presume all of this hatred towards customers comes from their dislike of the used game market. Thank God I haven't bought any other games through their system, or those would all be lost. If Valve ever pulls the plug, I might feel bad for all the people who have a library of games through them. You guys should have seen it coming though. hehe

Sticking to my choice... neither system. :p At least I can still play my original Half-Life without needing a Steam login. lol

So my second choice would still probably be the console version even though gamepads are not ideal. Paying for xbl doesn't agree with me either, but it's the lesser of two evils. ;)

I love the SteamCloud feature as well. Been waiting for it since Steam first came around.
Oh, and I was pulling the game down between 700Kbps and 1.4MBps yesterday. Haven't seen them dedicate that much bandwidth to a game in some time.

Buying Steam PC games on the XBOX360 means very few content patches, little to no modding ability due to MS's hatred of free updates.

This is a PC game with X360 port slapped on the side. Don't fool yourself thinking it was meant to be played on a console. Valve games are all about community modding and mapping, both of which won't happen on the 360. Look at TF2 if you want an easy example.

The "doing it wrong" was regarding your insistance that Steam makes your computer explode upon installation. I don't have a PC that Steam isn't installed on, and it's usually the first thing I install. Weird then, how my systems are still up and running just fine.

It's impossible to believe you forgot an email address you had. You do realize they use email addresses for logins, don't you? Either way, you completely skirted the point of my analogy, so I'll use games this time. Say I go to Gamestop and pick up the latest unused copy of <insert good game here>. I take it home, play it. Months pass, and eventually I manage to lose it. Do I go back to GameStop and demand they replace my lost copy?

You apparently would.

Now comes the part where you say, "Well that's just one game! Losing a Steam account is like losing ten all at once!", to which I would reply "Yes, so that just underscores the personal responsibility one has to safeguard such a thing, now doesn't it?".

Finally, it's painfully obvious you're just one of the TENS of people who got burnt by the whole "ZOMG I have to install Steam to play HL2? This is Communism!".

All I can say is get over it. Digital distribution is not going away any time soon.

Thanks!

there's no reason to have a server list in l4d

there's not that many options, you just pick the difficulty and map. what would be the point of choosing between 30 different games playing no mercy on expert, when you don't know any of the people playing?

if you want to play with friends, there's a feature that lets you play with friends.

Until you prove otherwise i call bullshit. To find your username all you have to do is provide your fucking email address and they will email it to you.

Either your completely full of shit or you dont know your own email address.

Making up reasons to make yourself hate a company is one thing but trying to fool a forum full of people that know better is just stupid.

You seem to have come off like a jerk, but I may have read into it wrong. How do I prove that I can't remember what email address I registered a game to several months ago? Heck I forget my own name sometimes. What does proving anything have to do with my choice for wanting this game on a PC or a console? lol

Different people have different reasons. I register a different email address every time I have to sign up for some bullcrap. It weeds out the companies who sell names and email addresses out for money. You must be a supporter of spam mail. That is your wish, and trying to force me to accept your ideal won't work. There is no reason why Valve couldn't tell me what my login was by looking up the cd key. That is their decision to not support their customer. Continuing to derail the thread is your decision.

Just because you don't like my choice doesn't mean you have to cuss at me or derail a thread. This is just a stupid poll asking what choice somebody would choose and why. Who are you trying to defend anyway? You an employee of Valve or something? rofl

Good day to you.

i'd say your original post was colorful enough to derail the thread. It also made you out to be a troll, maybe you should have thought about what you were typing first instead of acting like a angsty teenager.

Good day to you.

Ok seriously, the jokes have to stop here. Some people are actually taking you seriously.

ShagnWagn, let me get this straight:

You're bashing one of the best DRM systems to date because:
1) You forgot your steam login account information.
2) You complain about having to log in to a management system for said games and don't understand the obvious benefits of this.
3) You used a bogus email account to register for Steam (which you forgot) knowing that you had invest money into the games that support it.
4) Your silly excuse for #3 is to avoid spam.

And somehow, this is Valve's fault?

Denial is a long river, my friend.

if you cant work steam , you might be a redneck.

i just bought the game and cant stop playing into deep into the night!

if you are on hard ocp steam group, look for me shaqfu to play....

I've been using Steam since HL2 came out and have had no problems whatsoever.
Games are auto-updated (if you want them to be).
You can install the games on as many PC's as you want (at least the Valve ones) and play on any PC.
You don't have to save CD Keys (for online purchased Valve games).
