So apparently if you preorder left4dead you get access to the demo on November 6th.

It's like that for steam and it's supposed to be for GameStop also. I just preordered from gamestop and remember this and called to ask 2 stores and neither of them knew anything. Does anyone know details on this? Is gamestop in on it? If so, how does it work?

i pre ordered from gamestop and it has the same offer..this is what it says on the page on gamestop...

Reserve Left for Dead and receive early access to the demo. The early access will start on 11/6/08 and will end on 11/11/08. Offer valid only while supplies last.

In-Store and Online Customers: Codes and instructions will be emailed beginning 11/5/08. You must provide a valid e-mail address at time of online order or in-store reservation in order to receive an early access code.

Aww that sucks...

I just returned my reservation and got my money back and bought it from steam. I don't plan on selling L4D anyway though so i shouldn't really need the disk.

COD5 is iffy though, seems like it might want to get sold.

It's £1 cheaper over here in the uk from play.com so that, and after getting burned waiting for the delayed Crysis Warhead preload off steam, play.com are getting my money this time around.

Yeah I was like that to. With Fallout. I'd really prefer a hardcopy so I can install it in like 10 minutes instead of waiting hours to download it but....I want this demo!!!!

Chances are i'll be working when it comes out so I can:

-install
-go to work
-get back to play
-????
-profit

how do they get the game massively sold if they don't open the demo to EVERYONE!!!!!

unless they have something to hide........

Everyone else will be able to participate in the demo a few days after the pre-ordered demos are released.

You can't really sell it anyway since you need to register the CD-key to your account in order to play.

Kind of lame but I guess it gives an incentive for the pointless process of preordering.

Except that valve wasn't the publisher for warhead, and therefore wasn't allowed to release it when they wanted to. They had to wait for EA/Crytek's approval before they unlocked the servers. Since this is a Valve game, we'll most likely have it preloaded a week before the actual game comes out.

Since I cant resell the hardcopy anyway,Ill go with STEAM on this one.

Hardcopy FTW!

You buy a hardcopy and you still have to use Steam and a Steam ID. Hell, after installing you can toss your DVD if you wish.

I don't see a point to hard copies anymore. Even if you are really paranoid you can either copy your Steam folder to another hard drive (my preferred method) or burn the GCF archives to a DVD.

Your hardcopy has a key that is used to either create a new Steam ID (if you don't have one) or to link to your existing Steam ID. The key works once, that's it. You don't be able to sell the game and have it be usable by another person, not unless you do something like sell your Steam account to them (which more than likely has other games tied to it).

exactly. this is straight from Valve...
"Early access to the demo begins Thursday, November 6 on both the Xbox 360 and the PC. The demo will feature single player and co-operative modes, supporting 1 to 4 player games.

On November 11 the demo will be made available to all Xbox 360 and PC gamers, with no obligation to purchase. The demo concludes on November 18, when Left 4 Dead will be made available at retail outlets across North America and worldwide via Steam."

there is no difference in getting it retail and on steam.. you still have to register it on steam lol. Might as well get it on steam so you dont ever lose it and you save gas :)

I thought once you enter the cd-key and it's in your steam account, you don't need the DVD anymore. I ordered it from amazon because it is same price as steam.

Does anyone know how they plan to release the demo on Steam?

Will it be similar to the TF2 Beta, if you preordered orange box? i.e. Your steam games list will say "Left 4 Dead Demo", and on release day the client will merely update the demo into the full game?

I have already preordered via Steam, but right now it just shows "Left 4 Dead - Not yet released", it doesn't list anything regarding the demo

u can save gas by having the hardcopy delivered to u.

Steam FTW, I have enough crap cluttering my house as it is.

Can't wait to play the demo! Only 2 more days and I'll get my zombie-killing fix.

somewhat unrelated: gosh darnit! why does 'nov 6' mean 7AM PST for valve and not 12AM??? gaaah at waiting!

lol. Typically, "Releasing November 6th" would mean early morning of November 7th.

I think Valve planned November 5th to be the release date, and just told everybody Nov. 6th so we'd be all excited when we got it in the morning instead of late that night :p

So is it available for play yet!? I had it pre-loading last night when I went to bed but now I'm stuck at work. :(

I am stuck at work as well without my laptop. I am anxious to see what this game is like.

I'm loading it up now. I'll post some shitty bmps from fraps demo.

godddddddddddddddddddddamit...It's making me update -_-

So they opened it up or are you guys just preloading? Finish my preload last night and am now stuck at work...
