I am looking at tv's that I will primarily use for my downstairs living room and it will be my gaming tv, I want somthing at least 55" and I have a couple grand to spend, I have been looking around but I have not really seen any reviews for newer tv's and imput lag and decent refresh rates. Any suggestions?

I’ve been happy with my Sony HX800. While I’m no tournament champion or anything, I do play fighting games with the general intention of winning and I don’t have any issues with major input delay. You’ll never get the response times you might expect from a CRT, but it’s great for an LCD. I use it as a monitor for my PC and shooters work great. Just make sure you have game mode on (and “smoothing” off) and you’ll find it’s a good TV for gaming. It is capped at a “true” 60Hz, but can use smoothing to do 240 in movies if you like. There’s a 1-button toggle between movie mode and game mode, so that’s not some needlessly complicated process.
Plus, it’s 3D enabled, but you don’t have to bother if you don’t want to. The 3D stuff is available separately and you can use any brand of glasses you want.
Amazon’s got it for $1,900, which is about $800 less than I paid a couple years ago.

Look at the new Sharp LED tv's with 3D. The 3D capable models are typically built better than non-3D, so they are nice even if you don't need/want 3D. Refresh rate doesn't really matter since when gaming you need to be in 'game mode' and nothing plays over 60FPS anyways. Also if you buy a LED TV, get one with true local dimming. Edge lit LED's do not do black correctly.

I have a 3D Panasonic plasma and love it. I don't have to mess around with modes or anything since it's 600MHz. The blacks look good and plasmas are lower cost than LED TV's.
