picked this up the other day but it has problems with some leds flickering and some not turning on at all

as far as I can tel its set out like -

LED-RESISTOR-LED-RESISTOR and so on

any ideas what could be causing this?

LED-resistor-LED resistor... in series doesn't make any sense..

i'm sure that it's more like a resistor and LED in series.. then that in parrallel with other LED-resistors

if it were all in series the entire strip wouldn't work, given that some of the LEDs are out..

so now.. it's either bad soldering, or burned out LEDs.. or some were put in backwards..

Since you are lucky enough to have the 5mm clear LEDs, somethign you can do to check if they are in the correct direction, take a very close look at them. Inside the lens you'll see a "flag" shaped piece of metal. Make sure all the "flags" are on the same side in each LED. If the unlit LEDs have the "flags" on the opposite side, then you know FOR SURE they;re in backwards.

Code:
-----
 /
/
/

It'll look something like that inside the LED's lens.

That has to be among the worst quality control issues I've seen.

I'd simply return it.

Was it used wheyou bought it? If so, sounds like maybe they applied too much voltage to it.
