I'm the kind of person who hates LED Fans and all those gaudy device LEDs. I generally look for fans and devices that do not have them so I find myself in a bit of a pickle now...

I have an Akasa FC.6 Fan Controller that is great, but has those blue LEDs that will destroy your retina and burn a hole through the back of your head if you look directly at them. (srsly, well, not really, but they're FAR too bright!)

I need to find a way to disable them or remove them.

I truly do not need to see an LED to tell me a fan is "on". I can see it spinning If I'm so inclined to check. What I don't want is a backyard engineering mod like applying a strip of black electrical tape over them because that just looks liks ass.

Is there anyone out there who has modded an FC.6 to remove the LEDs? Or at least disable them?

They look to be through-hole soldered. You can either de-solder them or just clip their leads as close to the board as possible, provided there isn't some sort of nylon stand-off mounted under them.

I like the unit so much I purchased a second one for use in my other computer, so I'll use that one as a guinea-pig for testing the most effective method for removing/disabling the LEDs.

Or a bit of black paint over the LEDs if you're not confident in your soldering skill.

A quick spray of the LED's with vinyl dye will give them a VERY slight glow.

Or nail clip the leads. Nail clippers are great for tiny metal pieces and stripping wires. I have a pair dedicated to modding :)
