led mouse vs. laser mouse

I have a kid on another forum telling me that a laser mouse isn't as good I am finding this hard to swallow, I mean I could be wrong but I don't see how a laser mouse wouldn't be as good for gaming. Anyone have any saved links to reviews or any insight
 
Sounds like a load of BS to me, Search for MX1000 on here or google search for it should net you the answers you need
 
There shouldn't be any difference.

Optical mice work by repeatedly taking pictures of the mousing surface; the LED or laser only lights up the surface for the image sensor.

And there's no spectacular science to that.. if you get the color and intensity of the light source correct, your mouse is as good as it's gonna get. Both lasers and LEDs can be adjusted to optimum in this regard, and besides, most new mouse sensor IC's adjust intensity automatically.
 
If you want laser, you'll have to get the MX1000 (laser). If you don't want a wireless mouse, just get the MX510 (optical). From what I've heard, you won't notice any difference in response time.

Man MX1000 isn't a bad mouse! My personal IMHO it's not the best for gaming cause of batts. They give additional weight and could go low during a game. All the other technical features of this mouse are perfect!
I use MX510 (corded but has smaller weight) and Icemat black 2nd ed (big size and good gliding) and I have all that I need!
 
^^ would you recommend any other pad than the Ice mat black 2nd edition? im looking at getting a gaming mouse pad and I think I like the idea of that one the most...
 
I lke this combo (MX510+Icemat)! But If you want a cheaper pad you can buy Steelpad 4D (double-surface) or Steelpad S&S (bid size) also a very good pad. From all the pads I've tried I liked Steelpad and Icemat most!
 
from all the pads I've tried, I still go back to using nothing under my mouse. Ever since i ditched ball mice in favor of optical, there's no reason for a pad, anymore.

But seriously, I would think that a laser mouse would be a bit more precise (not noticeably precise IMO, but a better technology which can be improved upon), so this kid is just talking out his ass.

If only you knew what you were talking about.

1) the laser has 2,000% more image resolutio
2) the laser "fires" at a faster frequency (can't find the numbers right now, but, I seem to remember it was somewhere around 5-10x as fast)

add 2000% increase in scanning quality, and 500% inrease in scan SPEED, and you've got a far more sensitive imaging reticule.

I withdraw my previous "no difference" comment; a couple reps from Agilent were at my company today showing off test equipment, and I talked mouse sensors with them over lunch :D

The MX1000 uses a tweaked "MX engine" sensor, aka the 800dpi Agilent ADNS 2051. The frame rate on the chip has been increased, and a polarizing filter was added either to the sensor itself or to its lens. The benefit of this is that when a laser is used (which emits polarized light) only direct reflections are received by the image sensor; the majority of scatter is rejected which increases contrast.

The increased res, "several thousand times laser shooting speed", etc.. are all marketing.
 
Maybe what this other person is referring to is the old old old laser mice from I dont know how long ago. They did suck. You needed to use a special mouse pad that had a checkerboard pattern on it or something so the mouse could track movement.

I have no idea what the exact specs for those were and I've never used one. I just read about them in a textbook for an introductory computer course I had to take as a prerequisite a few years ago.
 
I own an MX1000 and it works fantastic for 2D things. However, for first person shooters, a wireless LED would be better. This has nothing to do with resolution and all that techno mumbo jumbo, but purely because when you lift the mouse, there is a half second lag for it to start moving again. If you play first person shooters with low sensitivity like me, every time you lift your mouse to turn, it takes a half second to catch on, which is a half second too late. Don't get me wrong, the MX1000 is fantastic as I use it for 2D and websurfing etc. But when it comes to hardcore gaming, my wired mouse, or a wireless LED will be better.

If you aren't exactly sure what I'm talking about, in windows, lift your MX1000. Then drop it and immediately move it straight in any direction. You will notice it takes a half second for it to respond. In a competetive FPS against other living beings, half second = dead. However, if you are a casual gamer, it won't affect you much. I actually used solely my MX1000 for a couple of weeks to see if I could get used to it in CS:S and CS and Halo and Farcry. I got better with it, but it still limited my skills :D

A laser has image resolution? And you really wouldn't have 2000% MORE of something, you would just have 2000% of something. It seems like you just heard a couple things somewhere and now you are an expert in the field. Do you have any sources for your information?
 
im really hoping logitech fixes the lag after lifting the mouse. dunno if they can do that in software tho.
 
only if you knew what was responsible for it. The resolution is not due to the laser, but do to the chip. As far as the faster frequency, that can also be accomplished just as eaisly and cheaper with an LED. It's just not a selling point to the unknowledgeable.

I acutally experimented with my old MX510 and the MX1000.

Pros of MX1000:

-It's heavy (I like heavy mice, not light plastic mice. Easier for me to snipe)
-It's wireless (no more tugging the mouse (but I did tape the cord to the side of the monitor :p))
-My hand fits better with his mouse.
-Has a battery life indicator


So far no cons as of yet. It feels like the MX510 with no lag penalty. Overall it's a good mouse to have if you hate tugging on the cord and have a liking to heavy mice.

Plug it in the USB/PS2 adapter and set the mouse sample rate to 200 and Input buffer length to 300.
 
I bought the MX1000

...*looking around*....SWEEEET ass mouse! Very responsive and comfortable *although I admit it was a LITTLE uncomfortable...but then again I came off of using the same old mouse from 4 years ago*

Give it a shot anyone reading this. If you dont' like it it's easy to return, not like opening up RAM or a Harddrive. Works really well in games so far too. Very responsive.

As for the weight..um...I never understood that...there must be some weak people out there because it's not heavy.

this is kind of an "anti-killer-app" type bug.
uber accurate mouse with a flaw this big? go figure, right?

laser = improved contrast due to light polarization / reduced scatter.. that's a fact.

LEDs can switch as fast as fuck; optical SPDIF drivers use LEDs, and at 24/192 NRZ encoded that works out to 25MHz...
