LED mod question for power LED

I have a blue led out of some electronic device I busted because I want to mod it in place of my existing power LED on my case. I was wondering if this new LED will safely replace my existing power LED and whether or not there will be any problem using this larger (maybe even different style?) LED.

It does power up with a regular 9 volt battery if that helps. I guess the reason I ask is because of it's size difference. I don't know if this matters. It's only slightly larger.

So can I safely use this for a power LED to hook up to my motherboard? Thanks all.

I don't know about how the resistors are setup in series with that LED, but just because it lights up with a 9v doesn't mean that it is designed to light at the voltage. Only way to find out is to hook it up, and you are at a lower risk for destroying the LED with the voltage(~1.5-5)/amperage(<40ma) coming off of a place where a LED already was than a 9v.

So your saying my motherboard will be totally fine if anything goes wrong after I hook it up and at most the LED will die?

Thanks for the reply.

Most LEDs like that are rated for about 2-3V and 25-30mA. If you're looking to use it as a replacement power LED, you should be able to just plop it in there, since the motherboard takes care of current limiting.
