Would it be harmful to leave a USB flash drive plugged in at all times? When I use mine for short periods it gets pretty hot. I figured it could get hot enough to melt the plastic or damage some of the internal componenets. I was going to use it to store my firefox / thunderbird application data so I can use basically the same browser at school and on my laptop.

I don't think I'd use my USB drive at all, ever, if it actually got hot. I've used about 10 of them of various brands, and none of them have ever gotten even warm.
