Some people told me to leave my comp on as much as possible, because it'll make it last longer.

well, I don't know if this is true or not, but recently, my comp is crashing, IE. random BSOD, freezes, etc.

I had left for the weekend, so it wasn't turned on for the last 48 hours. when i came back and turned on the comp, it crashes every 5-20 minutes. even if it's idle at the logon screen in Win XP.
 
leaving it on all the time won't neccesarily make it last longer, but think of it this way, when do light bulbs burn out? (when you turn them on..), but on the other hand, hardware does die, it doesn't last forever.
 
Sounds like a heat problem. Make sure your heatsink is seated properly and that you have adequate case airflow. If not that then I'd say an underpowered power supply. Or it could be a software problem. Possibly a bad video driver or something. Maybe some spyware or something in the background.
 
For starters, leaving it on does help, as when you turn it off, they cool down. Rapid re-warming on the next cold boot can and does shorten the lifespan of parts, as this rapid re-warming damages the tracks, and can also cause the PC board to become brittle and snap. Although you use a lot more power, you can increase life expectancy by leaving it on.
As for your problem, try booting up in Safe Mode and see if it crashes. It is probably a heat issue, but whether it is CPU or vid card i can't tell. Does it just randomly crash, or does it happen when you do something specific?
 
It seems to be running quite stable right now, right after 9 reboots and 6 hours later.

It crashes randomly, idle or running anything. It crashed 3 times when idle (BSOD, all random, no specific error #).
 
If you leave it on 24/7, make sure you clean the case out often. I don't turn off my PC, and the dust builds up insanely fast. You don't want the dust killing your componenets and causing heat buildup.
